A two-car accident is blocking traffic at 8484 Alleghany Road, in front of the Flying J Travel Center. Pembroke and Indian Fall fire departments are responding along with Mercy EMS. Unknown injuries.

UPDATE 5:35 p.m.: The accident is partially blocking the entrance to the travel center. There are two injuries reported, unknown severity.

UPDATE 5:59 p.m.: One person is being transported to UMMC for evaluation. No word on the status of others.

UPDATE 6:09 p.m.: A 76-year-old female is being taken to UMMC complaining of right leg pain after the vehicle she was driving was allegedly T-boned on the passenger's side as she attempted to turn north on Route 77. She was wearing a seat belt. Also, an 11-year-old boy is being taken to UMMC, accompanied by his grandmother, for evaluation.

UPDATE 6:15 p.m.: The responders are back in service.

A one-car accident on Lockport Road, Oakfield, claimed the life of a 21-year-old South Alabama resident and sent another man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred at 7:19 p.m. near the intersection of Bliss Road.

Stephen T. Ferry was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The car slid sideways, struck a small pine tree and then a larger tree on the driver's side.

Ferry was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, 19-year-old Jonathan T. Coombs, of Orchard Street, Oakfield, was apparently ejected from the vehicle.

Coombs was transported to ECMC by Mercy Flight with what authorities describe as life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident has not been determined.

Responding to the accident were Oakfield and Alabama fire departments and Mercy EMS.

The investigation is being conducted by Deputy James Diehl, Deputy Eric Seppala, Deputy Patrick Reeves and Investigator Timothy Weis.

Assisting at the scene were Deputy Joseph Graff and Trooper Holly Hansel.

Investigators are on scene in the area of 2625 Lockport Road, Oakfield, for a fatal motor vehicle accident.

At least one other person was seriously injured and transported by Mercy Flight to an area hospital.

The vehicle hit a tree and came to rest about 50 feet off the road and at least one person was trapped in the vehicle.

It's unknown at this time if there were other victims.

The accident was reported at 7:19 p.m.

Oakfield Fire and Mercy EMS were dispatched and Alabama Fire provided fire police to close Lockport Road.

Oakfield Fire is now back in service.

A Pavilion resident was uninjured early this morning after falling asleep and crashing his car on Route 246 in the Town of Covington.

Christopher Barbis, 26, was, however, cited by the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office for alleged failure to keep right.

Barbis was southbound on Route 237 at 2:23 a.m. when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

His car had substantial front-end damage after striking a National Grid utility pole.

Pavilion Fire Department responded to the scene.

No other vehicles were involved.

An SUV crashed into a tree at 1825 Lewiston Road in Alabama. It's near Knowlesville Road in the area of the hunt club. The driver is out and there is reportedly only a minor injury. Alabama Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

A car has careened into the post office building at 11142 S. Lake Road in Pavilion. But an officer on scene says he can find no evidence of it. He's told to check the loading docks. There are reportedly no injuries but an ambulance is responding in non-emergency mode to evaluate the person or persons involved.

UPDATE 2:24 p.m.: A responder says fire and EMS can clear the assignment, but a deputy is called to the scene.

An accident with injuries is reported at Park and Lewiston roads. Town of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 3:42 p.m.: A 59-year-old woman whose car was rear-ended in this two-vehicle accident is being taken to UMMC with complaints of neck and lower back pain. Town fire is back in service.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.: A 56-year-old woman who was a front seat passenger in the vehicle which was rear-ended is also being taken to UMMC. She has neck and back pain and is upset.

UPDATE 4:09 p.m. (by Howard): Deputy on scene said both patients transported primarily for evaulation. The red minivan had relatively minor damage and the SUV that hit it had nearly no damage.

A property damage accident is reported on Sand Hill Road, on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation. The driver of the vehicle which reportedly struck the involved property fled northbound in a green Chevy Astro van. But the driver left his or her passenger at the scene.

A car-pedestrian accident is reported at 505 E. Main St. in front of the 7-11 store in the City of Batavia. The city fire department is responding and medics are on scene.

UPDATE 7:38 p.m.: City fire is back in service.

A driver allegedly failed to stop for a red light at the Texeco Town intersection in Pavilion at 1:09 p.m., Sunday, causing an accident that sent three people to area hospitals.

Andre Trepanier, age unknown, of Sainte-Threse, Quebec, Canada, was issued a traffic citation following the accident.

He was transported by Mercy EMS to Erie County Medical Center as was his passenger, Lise Trepanier, 72.

Also injured was Toby S. Emo, 37, of Nunda. Emo was taken to UMMC.

None of the injuries were life threatening.

According to the accident investigation report by Deputy Brad Mazur, Trepanier was westbound on Route 20 when he allegedly failed to stop for a red light. His 2011 Chevy sedan was struck by Emo's 2012 Ford minivan. The minivan then struck a utility pole.

A two-car accident is reported on the eastbound Thruway at mile marker 378.6. Le Roy Fire Department and Le Roy Ambulance Service are responding. One car is in the ditch.

UPDATE 5:06 p.m.: All parties involved are sign-offs. Le Roy is back in service.

An ambulance is being dispatched to a car-into-pole accident in the area of 9768 Colby Road, Darien.

Darien Fire Department and law enforcement on scene.

The ambulance is requested for evaluation of a subject due to airbag deployment.

UPDATE 10:59 p.m.: The pole is still standing, but it's cracked. National Grid notified.

UPDATE 11:32 p.m.: All units back in service.

A two-car accident with one car hitting a pole is reported in the area of 122 Bank St., Batavia.

There are possible injuries.

City fire and Mercy EMS responding.

A child riding his bicycle was allegedly struck by a red pickup truck last seen heading west on Main Street in the City of Batavia. The child reportedly does not require medical attention. The accident occurred at West Main Street and Monclair Avenue and afterward the child went to a relative's house on Oak Street. His father is going there to pick him up now.

A one-vehicle rollover accident is reported at 7949 Telephone Road  in Pavilion. The driver is out and walking around. He reportedly told dispatch he fell asleep at the wheel and his vehicle rolled multiple times. He claims to have no injuries, but Mercy medics are responding to check him out. Law enforcement is also responding. The location is between Linwood and Asbury roads.

UPDATE 2:52 p.m.: A medic on scene confirms the healthy condition of the driver, save for a couple of nicks on his fingers. He warns that the accident has "upset some bees -- there's bees all over the place."

A man claims his girlfriend struck him with her vehicle in the parking lot behind the Genesee County Jail on Main Street. He reportedly has an arm injury. The driver has since left the scene. City police and Mercy medics are on scene.

A motor-vehicle accident with injury is reported at routes 237 and 33 in Stafford. Mercy medics and Stafford Fire Department are responding.

UPDATE 12:05 p.m.: There are two patients. Mercy Flight is responding to the scene.

UPDATE (by Howard): One person was transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Another patient was a sign-off at the scene.

A three-car accident with minor injuries is reported in the area of 8111 E. Main Road, Le Roy.

That's near Linwood Road.

Le Roy Fire Department and Le Roy Ambulance Service dispatched.

The roadway is blocked.

It was an accident that emergency responders acknowledge could have been much worse.

The initial call at 12:13 p.m. was for a semi-truck hitting a school bus and pushing it over on its side on Route 5 near Wortendyke Road.

Four ambulances were dispatched, Mercy Flight was put on standby and East Pembroke Chief Don Newton requested mutual aid from Batavia, Alexander, Darien and Oakfield.

"We didn’t know if the school bus was full of children or not so a lot of ambulances were dispatched as a safeguard," said Sheriff Gary Maha. "You can always turn them back."

As it turns out, most of the responding units were put back in service.

There was only one pre-K child on the bus and he did not appeared to be injured. As required by code, he was taken to UMMC for evaluation.

Both drivers were evaluated at the scene and no injuries were reported.

The Pembroke Central School District bus was eastbound on Route 5 and was stopping to make a left-hand turn into a driveway to pick up another student when it was rear-ended by the tractor-trailer.

The bus skidded forward in a semicircle and landed on its side in the front yard of a residence on the north side of Main Street Road.

The driver and child were able to walk out the rear emergency exit.

"It could have been a lot worse," Newton said. "Thankfully, there was only one child on the bus and the driver was uninjured and the child is being taken to UMMC for evaluation, but it doesn’t look like anything too serious at this time."

Maha said it was too early in the investigation to determine if the truck driver -- whose name has not yet been released -- was distracted prior to the accident.

The driver, Maha said, claims the bus driver had not activated its bus stop lights; the bus driver, Maha said, told investigators he had activated the lights.

Children on school buses are not required to wear safety belts and the child on this bus was not belted, Maha said.

The trucking company involved has requested the trucker's load be released, but state authorities have requested the trailer be impounded until Wednesday pending further investigation.

A school bus and a tractor-trailer have collided at 3299 W. Main St. Road. The school bus is on its side. Injuries unknown. There is one student and the bus driver and they are both out of the vehicle. East Pembroke Fire Department is responding along with Mercy EMS. Oakfield and Darien are asked to stand by in quarters along with Town of Batavia firefighters. Mercy Flight is put on standby. This is west of Wortendyke Road.

UPDATE 12:16 p.m.: Wortendyke at Route 5 is closed, along with Route 5 at Hopkins Road. Sheriff's deputies are rerouting traffic until fire police can respond. Mercy Flight will not be needed. The Pembroke school district has already called a tow truck for the bus.

UPDATE 12:18 p.m.: The semi's driver is also out of his vehicle. Response from Oakfield, Darien and Town of Batavia is cancelled.

UPDATE 12:22 p.m.: The two adults will be sign-offs. There is one pediatric patient to be transported to the hospital.

UPDATE 12:29: "Until we get the bus on its wheels, the road's going to be closed for awhile." Meanwhile, truck traffic is backing up. A State Trooper is responding to the scene.

UPDATE 12:43 p.m.: The child is being taken to UMMC.

UPDATE 1:35 p.m.: The roadway is reopened. All units clear.
