Car accident at routes 63 and 246 in Pavilion

A motor vehicle accident with minor injuries is reported in Pavilion at routes 63 and 246. Pavilion Fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE (11:45 a.m.): A firefighter on scene reports there are no injuries. A medic is still responding but in nonemergency mode.

Open dump truck bed blamed for Thruway accident

Somebody reportedly forgot to put down the bed of a dump truck after it dumped its load at a construction site on the Thruway in Pembroke last night, according to State Police.

The driver of the truck, Sandra Palmer, 43, of Tonawanda, then proceeded West on the Thruway. Two miles later, the open bed of the truck struck the overpass of Route 77, causing the truck to rollover.

An emergency responder described the truck shortly after the 10:30 p.m. accident as "pretty well demolished."

The eastbound lane was shut down to set up a landing zone for Mercy Flight and Palmer was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center, where she is listed in fair condition this morning.

The truck was owned by Mallarie Entprises, Inc., out of Amherst.

An I-beam of the bridge was damaged, but a damage estimate was not available this morning.

Two-vehicle accident with minor injuries at West Main and Lyons

A two-vehicle accident with minor injuries is reported at West Main and Lyons streets. One of the vehicles reportedly rolled over.

The overturned vehicle needs to be uprighted ASAP to stop fuel leakage, says a firefighter on scene.

City Fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

Truck vs. car accident closes Route 20 at Route 77

It may be a minor injury accident, but responders are requesting that Route 20 be closed at Route 77.

Alexander Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene of what was reported as a truck vs. car accident with minor injuries.

UPDATE Tuesday, 9:53 a.m.: We've received the accident report on this incident.

A tractor-trailer was westbound on Route 20, reportedly driven by Rashpal S. Jhutty, 43, of Alabaster Road, Rexdale, Ontario, Canada, when the truck apparently strayed into the eastbound lane.

Wendy Green, 52, of Alexander, pulled her 2003 Pontiac sedan out of a driveway in the area of 3082 Route 20.

Her vehicle was struck on the side, the back driver's side area and knocked off the roadway.

The cargo on the truck was reportedly not securely fastened and spilled onto Route 20.

No injuries were reported.

Jhutty was issued three citations, including one for allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road.

The accident investigation was handled by Deputy Kevin McCarthy.

Car smashes into power pole in Bethany

A car has struck a pole at 5465 Ellicott St. Road, near Paul Road, in Bethany. Electrical wires are down. Bethany Fire Department is responding.

Southbound Route 63 is being shut down to one lane because of debris in the roadway. National Grid is responding to the scene in about 30 minutes.

UPDATE (2:03 p.m.): Pavilion Fire Department is asked to reroute all northbound tractor-trailers at routes 63 and 20. The Town of Batavia is sending fire police to reroute all southbound tractor-trailers.

UPDATE 5:06 p.m. (by Howard): Traffic is now being allowed unimpeded at the intersections of Route 63 and Batavia-Stafford Townline Road and at Texaco Town. However, work continues to replace the electric pole, so the southbound lane remains closed and fire police are directing traffic through the one open lane in the area of Paul Road.

Driver accused of passing on the right, causing accident

A driver was cited for allegedly illegally passing on the right, leading to a minor injury accident at 5:37 p.m., Friday.

The car passing on the right was struck by another vehicle, sending it into a parked vehicle in the area of 2761 W. Main Street Road, Batavia.

Mark A. Riegel, 18, of 3644 W. Main Street Road, Batavia, was driving a 1997 Honda when he allegedly attempted to pass a pickup truck hauling a trailer on the right.

The truck, driven by Joseph O. Martus, 55, of 2761 W. Main Street Road, Batavia, reportedly slowed to make a right-hand turn when Riegel allegedly made his passing attempt. Martus reportedly turned into Riegel's vehicle.

Riegel reported minor injuries, but was not transported to the hospital.

Construction vehicle accident reported on North Road, Le Roy

A skip loader being removed from a flatbed truck has reportedly rolled over in the area of 8669 North Road, Le Roy.

No reports on injuries, though a medic is on scene.

The loader reportedly rolled into the woods.

Le Roy Fire and law enforcement is en route.

The county highway department is also requested to the scene because the roadway is "tore up pretty good."

Dispatch describes it as an eight-inch gouge in the roadway.

UPDATE 9:06 a.m.: Clarification: A truck was hauling a trailer with equipment on it. It apparently went around a curve too fast and the trailer rolled over. When the truck stopped, the parking brake either wasn't on or malfunctioned and the truck rolled into the woods.

UPDATE 9:39 a.m.: A wrecker is on scene and the road will be closed so the truck can be moved.

Car crashes into tree in Le Roy

A car has crashed into a tree just south of the intersection of West Bergen and Selden roads in Le Roy and the fire department is responding.

Truck driver killed in fiery crash on Thruway

A 49-year-old truck driver from Decatur, Ala. was killed in an early morning crash on the Thruway just east of the Le Roy exit.

State Police investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the one-vehicle accident that took the life of Freddie R. Hatfield.

Hatfield was reportedly seen driving erratically before his truck veered off the roadway and into a line of trees 50 feet from the shoulder, where his truck burst into flames.

"It could have been a medical issue or he may have simply fell asleep,"  State Police Capt.  Michael Nigrelli told WBTA.

No other vehicles were involved.

Le Roy Fire responded to the scene of the 6 a.m. crash to handle the accident and the fire, which was just over the Genesee County line.

Hatfield was hauling building material from Ohio to Gates, driving for Crete Carriers of Lincoln, Neb.

Update: Two local men seriously hurt in weekend crashes

Two Genesee County men remain hospitalized in serious condition following separate accidents over the weekend.

Both men were charged with DWI.

Ace J. Morz, 42, of Corfu, was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC on Sunday (his birthday) following an accident around 9:45 p.m. on Genesee Street, near the county line, in Darien.

Morz reportedly crossed over into oncoming traffic. He apparently tried to swerve to avoid a tractor-trailer heading west when his SUV was struck by the truck, according to Rebecca Gibbons, public information officer for the State Police in Batavia. (initial report)

The driver of the truck, George Hall, 55, of Kingsley, was not injured in the crash.

On Saturday, around 9:15 p.m., Kevin M. Hermann, 21, was reportedly driving on Route 63 when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Little Canada Extension. Gibbons said that the State Police investigation indicates he was driving too fast when his car went into the turn. His car traveled off the far side of the road and flipped over several times.

Hermann, of Batavia, was ejected from the vehicle.

Gibbons did not know if he was wearing a safety belt.

He is listed in guarded condition, which means he's in ICU, at Strong Memorial Hospital.

There were other passengers in the car, but the available report did not list how many or who. There were no other people reported injured.

The investigation into both accidents is ongoing and additional citations may be issued.

Minor injury accident reported at Texaco Town intersection

A minor injury is reported following a car and tractor-trailer accident at routes 63 and 20, Pavilion.

Pavilion Fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 10:41 a.m.: The vehicles are blocking traffic.

UPDATE 10:47 a.m.: The victim has a leg injury and chest pain as well as a facial laceration. The steering wheel was deformed by the impact.

UPDATE 10:53 a.m: Mercy Flight dispatched.

Driver blames Route 98 accident on 'daydreaming'

A 20-year-old driver heading north on Route 98 in Elba on Friday says he was "daydreaming" and didn't see a car stopped ahead of him. The lapse of attention led to a rear-end accident that sent one person to the hospital.

The accident at 4:49 p.m. injured 65-year-old Charlene Worthington, a passenger in the stopped vehicle.

Cited for allegedly following too closely was Daniel J. Quatro, of 3709 Riches Corners Road, Albion.

The driver of the other car was June D. Boldt, 55, of Elba.

Truck loses trailer on Rt. 33 Stafford

At about 2:30 a.m. Monday June 21, 2010 a truck coming from the Stafford Carnival lost the trailer it was towing on Rt. 33 about a mile east of the Griswold Rd.

The trailer filled with prizes and some sort of game that was at the carnival traveled about 300 to 400 yards on its own causing the trailer to hit a mail box, a parked pickup truck that was for sale and coming to rest at a telephone pole about 200 yards west of the Waterman Road breaking it almost in half about 10 feet high.

Stafford Fire Dept. responded with Engine 94 and set up a light tower. Stafford units were back in service at 3:30 a.m.

There were no injuries.

Accident with possible entrapment reported in Corfu

A possible semi-truck vs. car accident has been reported in the area of 3336 Genesee St., Corfu.

There is possible entrapment.

Darien Fire is being dispatched.

UPDATE 10 p.m.: The only injury reported is a cut arm. There is a travel trailer involved. Route 33 is blocked.

UPDATE 10:04 p.m.: The entrapped driver may have numbness in the lower part of his body. Mercy Flight is being checked for availability.

UPDATE 10:09 p.m.: Mercy Flight is responding.

Accident off South Lake Road, Corfu

Pembroke Fire has been dispatched to an unknown type accident incident off the roadway in the area of 8755 South Lake Road, Corfu.

A chief is walking to the scene. He's requested a check on the availability of Mercy Flight and has requested a four-wheeler be dispatched to the scene.

UPDATE 4:49 p.m.: Emergency personnel are still trying to reach the victim. Mercy Flight is being dispatched to the Pembroke Fire Hall to stand by at that location.

UPDATE 4:54 p.m.: Four-wheelers are starting down the four-wheeler path, which is apparently the only route into the scene, which is well into the woods. The victim has been located.

UPDATE 4:56 p.m.: This is not a vehicle accident. A middle-aged man collapsed while climbing over a log. Mercy Flight will land at the Pembroke Hall.

A car accident in Bethany is requiring the aid of Mercy Flight. A 21-year-old male has been ejected from a vehicle and rescue efforts are underway.

Vehicle strikes tree near Williams Park

A vehicle is reported to have struck a tree on Pearl Street near Williams Park. City fire and a BLS ambulence are responding. The driver needs to be evaluated for injuries.

Car accident at Swan and Ellicott streets

A motor-vehicle accident is reported on Swan Street, just off Ellicott. A male is reporting back and neck pain. City fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

Alleged failure to yield right-of-way leads to injury accident in Darien

A passenger was injured in a two-car crash at 7:30 p.m., Sunday in Darien.

One driver was cited for failure to yield right-of-way.

Cited was a 17-year-old from Alden who was reportedly heading north on County Line Road and stopped at the stop sign before allegedly proceeding.

Driving west on Route 20 was Ronald P. Pfeil, 52, of West Seneca. His passenger, 48-year-old Barbara Pfeil, was transported to Erie County Medical Center.

The 17-year-old, nor her 11-year-old passenger, nor Ronald Pfeil were injured.
