12-year-old motocross rider injured at Area 51

A 12-year-old motocross rider is reported to have neck and back injuries after crashing at Area 51.

That's on Harloff Road in Batavia. East Pembroke fire and Mercy EMS responded. Mercy Flight is deemed not needed.

 

Four people injured Friday in West Main Street, Batavia, accident

A driver says he glanced down at his gas gauge and then didn't see a car in front of him slowing to make a turn, causing a rear-end accident on West Main Street in Batavia on Friday.

Nicholas J. Fenner, 19, of Clarence, was cited for allegedly following too closely.

Four people in the car Fenner reportedly hit were transported by ground ambulance to UMMC with non-life-threatening injuries: Shartanay R. Gibbs, 19, of Batavia (the driver of the second vehicle), Farah St. Cloud, 18, Delore Opoku-Boateng, 18, and Kyla R. Preston, 18.

Also in the second car, but not injured, was Shaday D. Gibbs.

There were no passengers in Fenner's car.

Shartanay Gibbs was cited for allegedly driving without a license.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Chad Minuto.

Man who fell on Route 77 calls 9-1-1

Dispatch has received a call from a man on Route 77 in Darien who apparently fell, hit his head, was knocked on unconscious, awoke, then called 9-1-1.

It's unknown how long he was unconscious.

He is still lying beside the roadway. He fell in the area of Darien Lake.

Law enforcement and Mercy EMS are in route.

ATV accident reported on Harloff Road

A woman has possibly suffered a back injury in an ATV accident at 3500 Harloff Road, Batavia.

That's the location of Polar Wave.

East Pembroke Fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE 7:21 p.m.: Mercy Flight requested to the scene.

UPDATE 7:49 p.m.: Mercy Flight in route to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Three-car collision, with injuries in Bethany

A possibly serious three-car motor-vehicle accident is reported at 5870 Ellicott Street Road in Bethany. There are injuries.

Bethany fire, Mercy EMS are responding.

Mercy Flight is on in-air standby.

UPDATE (3:10 p.m.): Mercy Flight is going to the scene. A landing zone is suggested in the parking lot of the Immaculate Conception Church.

UPDATE (3:50 p.m.): The accident scene is cleared and the roadway is re-opened.

UPDATE (4:55 p.m.): In reply to a question from emergency personnel, dispatch says Mercy Flight went to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Motor-vehicle accident in front of Denny's

A two-vehicle accident is reported at 385 W. Main St., in front of Denny's Restaurant in Batavia.

One person is reported to have a neck injury.

Batavia fire and Mercy EMS are on scene.

Motor-vehicle accident at West Main and Kelsey

East Pembroke Fire and Mercy EMS are responding to a motor-vehicle accident with injuries at West Main Street and Kelsey Road. A victim is, or was, in the roadway. 

Mercy Flight is on ground standby, with a 50/50 chance of being able to go to the scene, if called, due to weather conditions.

UPDATE (3:18 p.m.): Emergency responders report the injuries are not life threatening.

UPDATE (3:26 p.m.): Six people and two vehicles were involved. Four people were taken to hospital(s) via ambulance and two others were evaluated/treated at the scene.

Construction worker breaks natural gas line in Pavilion

Pavilion Fire Department has been called to a construction site wherein a worker accidently struck and broke a natural gas pipeline.

The location is 11043 River Road, between Ellicott Street and Starr roads.

Driver breaks natural gas line on Lewiston Road

The driver of a vehicle accidently backed into a natural gas meter at 7964 Lewiston Road, causing the pipe to leak and no means to shut it off.

The meter is completely removed from the gas line. The valve is visible but seems stuck, according to Town of Batavia volunteer firefighters on scene.

Wind is south, southwest at nine mph. National Fuel has been notified.

The location is south of Galloway Road, on the west side of Lewiston.

No injuries in Friday's Bank Street accident

A Batavia man said he swerved to avoid hitting a deer on Friday night leading to a car vs. pole accident on Bank Street between Ross and Vine streets.

Officer Kevin DeFelice said there was no reason to doubt John J. Dwyer, Jr.'s story. He hadn't been drinking and there were no skid marks to use to estimate the speed of his vehicle.

Dwyer told DeFelice that he was driving 30 mph.

No citations were issued.

"It's now up to his insurance company," DeFelice said.

Dwyer's car took out the utility pole.

There were no injuries and no other cars were involved in the accident.

Motorcycle rider injured when van allegedly fails to yield at Route 19 intersection

A motorcycle rider was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital yesterday after a van, whose driver thought a Route 19 intersection was clear, allegedly pulled out in front of the rider.

Daniel B. McMurdy, 46, of Westside Drive, Rochester, has been discharged from Strong as of this morning.

The 4:11 p.m. accident occurred at Route 19 and Vallance Road, Le Roy.

McMurdy was ejected from his bike, hitting the van's windshield, before falling to the pavement.

Cited for alleged failure to yield right-of-way at a stop sign was Michael Marmurek, 53, of Maxwell Street, North York.

The accident investigation was handled by Deputy Chad Minuto.

Car vs. pole at Vine and North in the city

A car vs. pole accident, without injuries, is reported at North and Vine streets. Also, Bank Street into the City of Batavia is shut down due to the same accident.

Utility poles are down, blocking the roadway. Law enforcement is requested at Law and Bank Street.

Barracades to control traffic are requested.

No injuries in accident at Ellicott and Jackson, Batavia

There were no injuries in an accident at Ellicott and Jackson streets a short time ago.

Officer Chris Camp said the accident investigation is preliminary and no information is yet available.

One-car accident reported on 490 on ramp, Le Roy

A one-car accident with an injury has been reported off Route 19, in the eastbound on ramp to the 490, in Le Roy.

Le Roy Fire and ambulance are responding.

The call came into Monroe County. Genesee County Emergency Dispatch has not received any calls about the accident

One person may have suffered a head injury. A person is reported at the side of the road holding another person.

UPDATE 8:50 p.m.: No accident was found. A fire chief spoke with a trooper who had been patrolling the area and the trooper had seen a disabled vehicle pulling a trailer and a person was beside the road working on the vehicle. Perhaps that's what the caller saw. Monroe County received only one call. Le Roy Fire and ambulance are clear.

Three people hurt in accident on Route 77, Darien

Three people were transported to area hospitals Friday evening following a two-car accident on Sumner Road and Route 77 in Darien.

One car allegedly stopped on Sumner at Route 77 but then pulled out on Route 77 while making a left-hand turn and was struck by the second vehicle, which was traveling southbound on Route 77.

The accident occurred at 7 p.m.

The driver of vehicle one is identified as Melissa M. Kenney, 40, of Exchange Street, Irving.

The second driver is Frederck W. Burtis, 30, of First Avenue, North Tonawanda.

Kenney had a passenger in her car, Rosemarie DeGeorge, 41.

Kenney and DeGeorge were taken to ECMC. Burtis was transported to UMMC.

While our initial report indicated that Mercy Flight was dispatched and did land, the accident report indicates all three passengers were taken by ground ambulance to the hospitals.

Driver says passenger hit him in arm causing one-car accident in Stafford

A driver says a female passenger struck him in his arm while he was driving, causing him to lose control of his car Thursday evening, resulting in a one-vehicle rollover accident.

No one was injured. The accident occurred at 6:43 p.m. on Route 33 near Caswell Road, Stafford.

The 2008 Chevy sedan was driven by 27-year-old Romer M. Williams, of East Bethany-Le Roy Road, East Bethany.

Williams told Deputy Matthew Butler that when he was struck in his arm, he lost control of the car. He swerved to the right shoulder, tried to correct and the car went into a sideways skid across the roadway and onto the opposite shoulder, where it rolled onto its side.

His passengers were Yalawn J. Christin, 22, and Charles A. Small Jr., 26.

No citations were issued.

Motor vehicle accident at Route 77 and Sumner Road in Darien

There's a motor vehicle accident with injuries at Route 77 and Sumner Road in Darien. It is blocking traffic.

Darien fire and Mercy EMS have been dispatched and a fire chief has requested information about the availability of Mercy Flight.

UPDATE 7:14 p.m.: Route 77 has been closed in both directions. Mercy Flight should be on scene shortly.

UPDATE 7:17 p.m.: Mercy Flight is on the ground.
