Driver reportedly lost control of car before it overturned

An 18-year-old driver was shaken up and taken to the hospital Wednesday after losing control of her car on R. Stephen Hawley Drive and having it overturn.

Alexandra N. Vanburen, of Batavia, was transported by ground ambulance to UMMC.

No other people where in Vanburen's car and no other vehicles were involved.

The reason is not contained in the Sheriff's Office report, but Vanburen's 1999 Saturn traveled off the roadway and onto the gravel shoulder. She reportedly over corrected and lost control of the car. The car traveled off the north shoulder, hit an embankment and landed on its roof.

No citations were issues.

Deputy Chad Minuto handled the investigation.

Motor-vehicle accident on Route 77 in Corfu

A motor-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer is reported in Corfu on Route 77 near Cohocton Road. There are no injuries but medics are requested to the scene. State Police are on scene along with Corfu Fire Department.

Pembroke Fire Police are shutting down southbound Route 77 at Route 5. Corfu Fire Police are shutting down northbound traffic at Route 77 and Route 33.

Speed blamed for crash on Maltby Road that injured teen

A teenage girl suffered minor injuries in a one-car accident on Maltby Road last night.

Natalie N. Buczek, 14, a passenger in a car driven by a 19-year-old Oakfield resident, was taken to UMMC for treatment of minor facial cuts and bleeding.

The driver, Raymond J. Litteer Jr., of 28 S. Main St., Oakfield, received a citation for allegedly speeding.

Neither Litteer nor another passenger, Justin D. Smith, 15, were injured in the crash.

According to investigator Deputy Chad Minuto, Litteer was driving too fast, heading east, on Maltby Road at 8:28 p.m. The driver reported hitting a dip and then losing control of a 2000 Chevy sedan owned by Danielle Buczek, of 26 S. Main St., Oakfield. 

The car hit an embankment and then a utility pole, which was damaged.

Car hits utility pole in Oakfield

A car has struck a utility pole at 3260 Maltby Road in Oakfield. Wires are at the side of the road. The car is still stuck in the pole.

Oakfield Fire Department responded. Fire police are going to block off Maltby Road at North Pearl Street and Fox Road.

UPDATE (8:39 p.m.): The pole is cracked and leaning and National Grid has been informed. Law enforcement is called to the scene.

Motor-vehicle accident at Main and Center, Batavia

A motor-vehicle accident with injuries is reported in downtown Batavia at Main and Center streets.

Batavia fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

One person has refused medical attention. One woman is being transported to UMMC complaining of neck, upper back and left shoulder pain.

Dirt bike rider crashes, is unconscious

A motocross rider is unconscious after crashing his bike at Area 51, located at 3500 Harloff Road in Batavia. The accident "is way up on top of the hill."

The availability of Mercy Flight is being checked.

Pembroke fire and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE (5:05 p.m.): Mercy Flight out of Batavia is in the air.

UPDATE (5:12 p.m.): Mercy Flight has landed.

UPDATE (5:43 p.m.): Mercy Flight is airborne, headed to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Two cars collide at Route 33 and Wortendyke Road

A two-car accident is reported at Route 33 and Wortendyke Road. It is blocking the roadway. There are minor injuries and there was airbag deployment.

Three cars crash at Alleghany and Meiser roads

A three-car accident is reported at 7926 Alleghany Road, with unknown injuries. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with Mercy EMS. It is at the intersection with Meiser Road and cars are blocking the roadway.

UPDATE (1:47 p.m.): The injuries are minor. The roadway is now open.

Four cars crash on Indian Falls Road

A four-car accident is reported on Indian Falls Road, with the road blocked.

The injuries are not believed to be serious.

Indian Falls, Pembroke and Mercy EMS are responding. The area is at the junction of Route 77.

There was an accident on Albion Road, Oakfield, at about 3 p.m. today. One person was taken by Mercy EMS to UMMC.

Truck shears off utility pole on South Main Street Road

A tractor-trailer has reportedly snagged a power line or otherwise hit a utility pole causing it to shear off in the area of 4050 South Main Road, Batavia.

The wires are still up and the pole remains upright.

Town of Batavia Fire is responding. National Grid has been notified.

UPDATE 5:56 p.m.: The scene was cleared some time ago. As for the picture above, it's a bit hard to see, but in the center foreground is a bit of a wire sticking up. It's attached to the base of the utility pole, barely visible. The rest of the utility pole is clear to the left of the picture. It's a very old, very short utility pole. The driver, making his first delivery to Batavia, thought he was on West Main Street Road, not South Main Road. He was making a turn into what he thought was a local business to deliver a supply of camper shells. There's a barn on the property. The cable and phone wires were lower than he thought. No citations were issued.

Car and bicyclist collide on East Main, Batavia

A car into bicycle accident is reported on East Main Street and Trumbull Parkway. A woman is lying on the ground, conscious. City fire, police and Mercy EMS are responding.

UPDATE (11:34 a.m.): The patient refused medical treatment. The driver of the car was not injured. Authorities are clearing, or have cleared the scene, and are filing a report.

Car accident on Main Road in Pembroke

A one-car accident with minor injuries is reported at 747 Main Road, between the Thruway and Lake Road, in Pembroke. There are two people involved and there was airbag deployment.

Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding along with Mercy EMS.

UPDATE (2:30 p.m.) The vehicle struck a telephone wire and tractor-trailers are striking it as they drive by. Verizon is being contacted. The occupants are being transported to UMMC for evaluation.

One car rollover accident on Warboys Road

A one-vehicle rollover accident with injuries is reported on Warboys Road. The location is between Route 237 and Merrill Road.

Byron and South Byron fire departments are responding along with Mercy EMS. The victim is out of the vehicle and the car is on its roof.

Three people injured in four-car accident at Daws Corners

Three people were injured in a four-car accident at Daws Corners -- Route 98 and Batavia-Elba Townline Road -- this afternoon.

A westbound car reportedly pulled out from Batavia-Elba Townline Road and was struck by a car traveling southbound on Route 98. Each of those cars then hit two others at the intersection.

Joseph N. Mattison, 20, of Merriman Road, Byron, was cited for alleged failure to yield. Mattison, who was driving a 1994 Chevy sedan, was among the three people injured and transported to UMMC by ambulance.

Also injured were Bob K. Rathman, 39, of Heritage Estates, Albion, and Chrystal Bush, 17, who was a passenger in a car driven by Suanne Quackenbush, 49, of Gillett Road, Byron.

Quackenbush was not injured.

The fourth vehicle was driven by Benny S. Giambrone, 84, of Farnsworth Road, Oakfield.

The accident was investigated by Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello.

Two-car accident at Route 5 and West Avenue in East Pembroke

A two-car accident unknown injuries is reported at Route 5 and West Avenue in East Pembroke. One car is blocking the roadway.

East Pembroke Fire Department is responding and medics from Oakfield are en route in non-emergency mode. There are reportedly two minor injuries.

Four cars in accident at Daws Corners

A four-vehicle accident, with one of them possibly on fire, is reported on Batavia-Elba Townline Road at the intersection of Route 98 (Daws Corners).

Two people are reportedly injured, one of them a woman who is seven-months pregnant.

Elba fire is responding along with Mercy EMS.

The accident is blocking the roadway.

UPDATE (5:30 p.m.): Two women with minor injuries were taken to UMMC, including the pregnant female.

CLARIFICATION (6:10 p.m.): From reader Shannon Laurer: "Actually they took the pregnant female and two males to the hospital! She was a passenger in one vehicle, her mother the driver accompanied her and each of the two males was a driver in the other vehicles involved, the third male driver involved did not need medical assistance."

Car accident in Alabama

A car accident is reported in the Town of Alabama at the intersection of Bloomingdale Avenue and Shanks Road. A passerby reportedly pushed the OnStar communications button in the vehicle, which alerted dispatch of the incident.

Alabama Fire Department and Mercy EMS are responding. Alabama responders say it involves one car and is not blocking the roadway.

Fire personnel calls for Mercy EMS to continue to scene in non-emergency mode.

One-car rollover accident reported on Bank Street Road

A one-car rollover accident with entrapment has been reported on Bank Street Road just south of the five corners.

Mercy Flight is on standby.

Town of Batavia and Mercy EMS responding.

UPDATE 9:06 a.m.: The driver, a GCC student, suffered only minor injuries if she was injured at all. After being freed from the wreckage, the young lady walked away from the accident. She was transported to UMMC by ground ambulance as a precaution. The preliminary cause is believed to be speed too fast for conditions. The road was wet and the driver, driving south, apparently lost control.
