Genesee Community College administrators will welcome to campus donors who've contributed to the College's scholarship funds and students who've received scholarships, as well as two outstanding graduates who have excelled in pursuing their career goals for the Discover the Stars reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8.
The event will be held in the Stuart Steiner Theatre located in the Genesee Center for the Arts on the GCC Batavia Campus, One College Road, Batavia.
The 2nd Annual Traditional Martial Arts Association Tournament will be held at the Batavia High School Gym Saturday, Sept. 27th with eliminations starting at 10 a.m.
The Tournament will consist of Sparring (point fighting), Individual Kata (forms), Team Kata, Weapons Kata, Self Defense, and MMA Grappling.

Terry Hills Golf Course, located on Clinton Street Road in Batavia, will be participating in a community event to benefit the families of service men and women.
All weekend long, Terry Hills will be donating a portion of our proceeds from Greens Fees to the Folds of Honor organization, as a participant in Patriot Golf Day. This organization provides educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our nation. In one year alone for Patriot Golf Day, we were able to raise $4,000!
Of all the promotions presented during the live harness racing meet at Batavia Downs each year, the Dachshund or “wiener dog” races have become the most popular.
This year the wiener dog races will be held Sunday, Aug. 24, during Family Fun Day at Batavia Downs. Sponsored by Genesee Feeds of Batavia, a total of 10 heats will be contested with eight wiener dogs in each race. The first race will begin after the last live harness race of the day, which will be approximately 4:20 p.m.

Downtown Batavia – “Bring Your Feet Downtown” to the Batavia Business Improvement District’s 11th Annual “Summer in the City” Festival in beautiful Downtown Batavia from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.
There will be more than 65 vendors. Food concessions will be serving: BBQ, hot dogs, hamburgers, fried dough, lobster rolls, pizza, pulled pork sandwiches, and ice cream and lots more delicious treats.
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. Across Western New York, there are six such Walks scheduled, including Sept. 27 in Batavia. The approximately two-mile walk starts and ends at the Genesee County Nursing Home on Bank Street.
The Genesee County Walk Committee was invaluable in enlisting the support of local businesses through sponsorships and basket raffle donations, and helping promote the walk within the towns and villages.

The annual Onion Festival will be on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8th and 9th at the Elba Firemen's Rec Hall, located at 7143 Oak Orchard Road. Lots of food, fun, friends and music. Bring the whole family to Elba's biggest event of the year!
Friday's hours are 5 p.m. 'til 2 a.m. and the main parade starts at 7 p.m. The parade route will be starting on West Avenue going south down Route 98 and ending at the Elba Rec Hall.
For $30, you can have the peace of mind that if your pet gets lost, there's hope it can be reunited with you. It's called microchipping and there will be a clinic set up at the Hogs for Paws animal shelter fundraiser on Aug. 16 at Stan's Harley-Davidson.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., your cat or dog can be microchipped, which includes the injection, a collar ID tag and national registration with AVID.
YWCA's 2014 Wheels & Heels event includes something for everyone, from a cool vehicle show and motorcycle ride to a bicycle rally, basket auction, fashion show, food fest and children's games. It's set for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Stan's Harley-Davidson, 4425 W. Saile Drive, Batavia.
