GCC's third annual Fine Arts Festival

GCC's third annual Fine Arts Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, at the Batavia campus.

It will be in the Genesee Center for the Arts / Forum Stage and is free and open to the public.

The festival offers numerous free workshops demonstrating creative endeavors such as drawing, painting, origami, printmaking, weaving and a carnival style photo booth!

All-new Home Show at Falleti Ice Arena

An all-new Home Show featuring the products and services of 57 area businesses starts this Friday at Falleti Ice Area.

The Genesee County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event which runs throughout the weekend, March 28-30.

The Home Show will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The ice arena is located at 22 Evans St. in the City of Batavia.

Assemblyman Hawley holds office hours Friday afternoon at GCC

Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) is holding regular office hours for Genesee County residents at Genesee Community College on Friday, May 15. They will be attended by staff members from Hawley's office. The 139th Assembly District, which Hawley represents, contains all of Genesee County.

The time is from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Conable Technology Building, Room T123, 1 College Road, Batavia.

Crowning of Genesee County Dairy Princess

The 2014-15 Genesee County Dairy Princess will be crowned at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, in Room T102 of the Conable Technology Building at Genesee Community College.

The public is welcome to learn about the county's dairy industry and watch the crowning of the Princess.

'Memories of Elvis' performance at Albion middle school, sponsored by OC Deputy Sheriffs Association

A show at Albion middle school called "Memories of Elvis" will be performed at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at Albion middle school. Tickets are $16 general admission. Ages 12 and under admitted free. This event is sponsored by the Orleans County Deputy Sheriffs Association.

Mobile food pantry at Byron Presbyterian Church - no income requirements

Byron Presbyterian Church will partner with FoodLink of Rochester to host a Mobile Food Pantry from 10 to noon this Saturday, March 22, at Byron Presbyterian Church, 6293 W. Main St. (Route 262), Byron.

The exact food items available are not known, but fresh produce will be available. No financial documentation is required to receive food items, but those receiving food will be asked to sign in. The food items must be for your household unless you have signed documentation from an individual to pick up items for them.

Special children's birthday party to celebrate Richmond Memorial Library's 125th Anniversary

The Richmond Memorial Library is turning 125 years old! To celebrate we are having a special Library Birthday Party in the Children's Room at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15.

O-A Elementary School hosts annual Winter Carnival

On Friday, March 21, 2014, the Oakfield-Alabama Elementary Community School Organization (E.C.S.O.) will be hosting its Annual Winter Carnival. It runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
 
The Winter Carnival has established itself as a cherished annual event in the eyes and hearts of our elementary student body as well as our community. It also serves as the single largest fundraising event of the year for our elementary school. Funds raised by E.C.S.O. during the school year are used to support and provide elementary students with special events, programs, equipment and supplies.

Second Annual Collin Crane Memorial Scholarship fundraiser at Falletti Ice Rink

The Second Annual Collin Crane Memorial event to raise money to help young hockey players is at 9 a.m. Saturday March 15 at Falleti Ice Rink, located at 22 Evans St. in the City of Batavia.

The scholarship fund helps pay fees for Ramparts hockey when a child's family is financially strapped.

There will be basket raffles for a Chinese auction, including special raffle items such as autographed sports memorabilia and gift certificates, 50/50, a bake sale and concessions.

Portrayal of Susan B. Anthony featured at Stafford Historical Society meeting

At our Wednesday, March 26 Stafford Historical Society monthly meeting, we will be having a special guest in the person of Ms. Susan B. Anthony, portrayed by Gretchen Murray Sepik, who is a well-known actress, storyteller and playwright.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m.. at the Stafford Town Hall, 8903 Route 237.

As you may remember, Ms. Anthony was a well-known activist of the 1800s; not only active in the Women's Rights Movement, but in anti-slavery, the Temperance Movement and helped organize women's labor unions.

Annual Sprout Film Festival at GCC's BEST Center

The annual Sprout Film Festival will be held Saturday, March 22 at Genesee Community College, BEST Center, Batavia Campus.

Rachel Simon is an award-winning author and nationally recognized public speaker on issues related to diversity and disability. Her presentation will begin at 1 p.m. with a book signing to follow.

The Sprout films relating to developmental and physical challenges are produced and star individuals facing these challenges. The film presentations will begin at 3 p.m. The event includes an art show.

BHS Production Club presents Elton John and Tim Rice version of 'Aida'

"Aida: The Timeless Love Story" will be presented by the Batavia High School Production Club at 7:30 p.m. on March 7 and 8 in the school auditorium, located at 260 St. Street in the City of Batavia.

The musical is based on the popular Broadway version created by Elton John, who wrote the music, and Tim Rice, who wrote the lyrics. In turn, that production is based a the book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Fall and David Henry Hwung.

The original "Aida" is a four-act opera set in ancient Egypt. It was written by Guiseppe Verdi in 1871.
