Artist reception at Roz Steiner gallery for Lee Hoag's multimedia exhibit 'The Alchemy of Objects'

The Fine Arts Committee of Genesee Community College is pleased to announce an opening reception for the exhibit "The Alchemy of Objects" by Rochester artist Lee Hoag. It will be held in the Roz Steiner Art Gallery from 5:50 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, and feature free live music and appetizers.

(It will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by a one-show-only performance by Galumpha Dance/Physical Theatre, based in Binghampton. Tickets for Galumpha are $10, or $8 for seniors 55 and over, $5 for students, $2 off for alumni with ID.)

Preservationist Tim Tielman speaks at GC Landmark Society's fall meeting

Preservationist Tim Tielman, executive director of the Campaign for Greater Buffalo, will speak Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Landmark Society of Genesee County’s fall meeting. The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. in the Gallery Room of the Richmond Memorial Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Artisans and crafters hold Holiday Bazaar at YWCA

The Artisans at North Street and YWCA of Genesee in Batavia is holding a Holiday Bazaar on Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Artisans at North Street gift shop is located at 301 North Street in Batavia inside the YWCA building. We offer locally made handcrafted soaps, journals, scarves, quilts and more at reasonable prices.

The Holiday Bazaar ends our first anniversary celebration with a raffle. For more information call: YWCA office at 585-343-5808. Admission is free.

Salvation Army presents video of 95th birthday message from Billy Graham, light dinner served

The Salvation Army will be presenting Billy Graham’s 95th birthday message “My Hope America,” on Thursday Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.  The location is the headquarters / chapel building on East Main Street in Downtown Batavia.

“There will be a light dinner served at 6 p.m. and then we will watch Graham’s 30-minute message,” Major Robert Kurtz said.

This event is free of charge and ALL ARE WELCOME.

GC Libertarians offering free rides to polls for Tuesday's City Council election

Ride the “Liberty Taxi”!

The Genesee County Libertarian Party wants everyone to have a chance to vote in Tuesday’s City Council election, and they don’t want a lack of transportation to prevent that from happening! The GCLP will be providing rides at no cost to voters of all political affiliations within the city from 8 a.m. until polls close at 9 p.m.

The World Wide Christmas Fair at Presbyterian Church, Batavia, benefits non-profits

Christmas doesn't start with Thanksgiving, it begins with The World Wide Christmas Fair held each year in Batavia. Save the date: Saturday, Nov. 9th from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Many non-profit organizations will participate and you will be able to purchase gifts from around the world, and benefit the organization as well. It is a great way to start your Christmas shopping.

Family fun in Elba with B.E.S.T Committee's Darto game night

Come out for a night of family fun with B.E.S.T.! On Saturday, Nov. 2nd, the PTSO of the Elba Central School is hosting a family Darto/Can Food Drive.

Darto is a Bingo-style game. No dabbers or chips needed, you just slide a tab over. Additional boards will be available for a $1.

For just $2 and 2 can goods you can play DARTO all night. The doors will open at 6 p.m.! The games will be played from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the ECS Cafeteria.

Debut of Reis Family Memorial Casino Night at Polish Falcons Club

On May 19th, 2008 tragedy struck close to home for most of us when the Reis family lost their lives too soon. A memorial scholarship fund was set up in the family’s name for remembrance that is awarded to a graduating Byron-Bergen Student each year. Unfortunately funds have diminished and with this night we plan to contribute to the scholarship so their memory can live on and continue to impact future generations in the Byron-Bergen School District.

Stafford Preservation Group hosts its Biennial Candidates Night

The Stafford Preservation Group is again sponsoring its Biennial Candidates Night in time for this fall's local elections. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the Stafford Town Hall Courtroom at 8903 Route 237.

All candidates for this years election have been invited to present a short introduction of their qualifications and views of issues confronting our government. Ralph Garnish, of the Stafford Country Club, will be the moderator and our well-known local radio personality Wayne Fuller will be the host. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited.

Stafford Historical Society's annual Fall Harvest Auction

The Annual Fall Harvest Auction, sponsored by the Stafford Historical Society, will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 in the courtroom of the Stafford Town Hall, located at 8903 Route 237, Stafford.

Included will be various attic treasures, gift certificates, fall produce, two Roy Mason Prints, other nautical prints and other articles.

Reception at Roz Steiner Gallery for Kathleen Sherin and her 'Defying Gravity' exhibition

Kathleen Sherin's "Defying Gravity" exhibition of prints containing drypoint, collagraphic carborundum printing and monoprint techniques is on display at the Rosalie "Roz" Steiner Gallery at GCC through Nov. 1. The venue is free and all are welcome.

There will be a weekend reception for the artist from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Free annual women's and men's health screenings at Jerome Center

United Memorial Medical Center and the Cancer Services Partnership will provide free health screenings to residents of Genesee County, between the ages of 40 and 64 with no insurance or high deductibles, from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Jerome Center, 16 Bank St., Batavia. Appointments are necessary for some of the screenings.

HLOM hosts Fall Family Festival at Ye Olde Willow Bend Inn, Batavia

The Holland Land Office Museum presents a Fall Family Festival to be held at Ye Olde Willow Bend Inn, 3489 W. Main Street Road, Batavia, from to 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.

You will be part of the 1800's stagecoach experience with travelers in period and military clothing.    Music by Rebel's Posse starts at 1:30 p.m. Line dancers welcome.

Adult entrance fee of $5 benefits the museum. Children are free.

City historian to give free presentation on the history of Batavia - warts and all - at St. James Parish Hall

Larry Barnes, City of Batavia historian, will be giving a talk entitled "History of Batavia – The Good, Bad, and Ugly" beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20 at St. James Episcopal Church Parish Hall.

This is a free event and there will be refreshments. The church is located at 405 E. Main St. in the City of Batavia.
