Voting takes place in the library's Gallery Room. Any registered voter residing in the Batavia City School District is eligible to vote.

Second Batavia city schools information meeting on facility improvement projects

An information meeting to inform parents and taxpayers about the nuts and bolts of the proposed 2013-14 budget's facility improvement projects will be held tonight at 7 in the library at Batavia High School.

A public vote on the proposed budget is May 21.

The info sessions will provide a break down of planned upgrades and repairs totaling more than $3.8 million and detail how they will be paid for.

Unabomber's brother speaks at GCC about mental illness

The Wellness Center at Genesee Community College is pleased to partner with the Mental Health Association in Genesee County for a presentation by David Kaczynski, brother of Ted Kaczynski, the man known as the Unabomber. David Kaczynski, 63, will share the story, both fascinating and heartwarming, of the impact his older brother’s mental illness had on their family. His presentation is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 in the Stuart Steiner Theatre on GCC’s Batavia campus.

BBQ chicken benefit at Trigon Park for Le Roy Christian Community Project's 15th anniversary

The Le Roy Christian Community Project is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and will hold a chicken BBQ on Saturday May 18 to benefit its many local assistance projects.

It will take place at Trigon Park from noon until 4 p.m. or until sold out.

Cost is $8.

The meal consists of a half chicken, salt potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw and a roll.

GCC holds second annual 'mini Relay for Life'

Genesee Community College's Wellness Center and the American Cancer Society are teaming up for the college's second annual "mini Relay for Life," which will be held Wednesday, May 1 from 3 until 9 p.m.

The theme of the race is "Be Your Own Superhero."  It will begin at the Student Union, at One College Road in Batavia.

Alexander Fire will be hosting an open house for the community and for anybody interested in becoming a voluneteer.  There will be a tour of the station, firefighting and EMS demonstrations and refreshments.

Junior Class at O-A high school presents prom fashion show

A prom fashion show is being presented by the Junior Class at the Oakfield Alabama Middle/High School Auditorium beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19. Tickets are $10 and refreshments are included.

"Step into Prom" will also feature assorted vendors, discount coupons and a huge basket raffle.

The school is located at 7001 Lewiston Road in Oakfield.

Stafford Historical Society meeting -- trustee election, local author presentation

The Stafford Historical Society's Annual monthly membership meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24th, at the town hall.

Our program will be Lynda Breckenridge Gaetano, a local born author who has written a series of "Up South" books with stories about real-life happenings, folklore and local history.

Society members are encourage to attend as Trustees are elected at this meeting.

Big flea market and chicken BBQ hosted by Kiwanis of Le Roy, Pavilion and Stafford

A chicken BBQ and flea market will be hosted by the Kiwanis of Le Roy, Pavilion and Stafford on Saturday, April 13. Organizers say the annual event this year is their biggest and best yet.

There will be lots of household items and furniture for sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The BBQ begins at 11 a.m. until sold out. Pre-sale BBQ tickets can be purchased at Charlene at 584-3738 or 584-3768. There will be a limited amount of walk-in tickets available.

The event takes place at Burgh and Schoenenberger Associates, located at 7070 Telephone Road (Route 20) in Pavilion.

Operation Injured Soldier will help send disabled vets fishing on Lake Ontario

The Medina Masonic War Vets Post 59 is sponsoring an event to benefit Operation Injured Soldier from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at the American Legion Post 35, located at 131 S. Main St. in Albion.

There will be a spaghetti dinner offered for $10, a gun raffle for $15, plus a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle.

Proceeds will be used to send disabled vets fishing on Lake Ontario.

Northgate Free Methodist Church hosts Family Stations of the Cross event

Northgate Free Methodist Church in Batavia is hosting a Family Stations of the Cross event on March 28, the Thursday evening before Easter Sunday.

Come experience five interactive stations that walk you through the story of Easter on a level that the whole family will enjoy. Starting off with Jesus’s grand entrance into Jerusalem, ending with a celebration that He Lives, and all the excitement in between!

Come to the church anytime between 6-8 p.m. and go through the stations at your leisure. The event will be held at our south campus at 350 Bank St.

Collin Crane Memorial at Falleti Ice Arena

The Batavia Ramparts are presenting the Collin Crane Memorial on Saturday, March 16, at the Falleti Ice Arena on Evans Street in the City of Batavia.

Schedule:

1 to 2:20 p.m. -- Open Memorial Skate -- with free skating and skate rentals

2:30 p.m. -- Mite Tournament

4:40 p.m. -- Midget A Rampart Exhibition Game vs. MOHL

Food from Clor's Meat Market will be available, including pulled pork, turkey, and beef sandwiches.

There will be raffles and all proceeds will be used to establish a hockey scholarship in Collin's name.

'Glitz-N-Glamour' Salon to host 'Dan Nash Cut-a-Thon'

Glitz-N-Glamour Salon owner Nicole Voltura will hold a “Cut-a-Thon” for her brother, Batavia resident Dan Nash, on Sunday, March 17 from 1 until 5 pm.

The event will include raffle items as well as a 50/50 raffle.  Voltura said there are 26 confirmed baskets for the raffle so far.

Items range from party mixes to wine, a Keurig machine, gift certificates to local restaurants, hair products, etc.

Ticket prices are $1 for three tickets or $10 for arms-length.

First ever Elba Central School Square Dance - you're invited

The Elba Central School Junior Class is sponsoring the premiere Elba Central School Square Dance. This will take place from 7 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.

It's open to the public. Cost is $4 per student and $7 per adult. There will be basket raffles, 50/50 raffles and food available.

This will be at Elba Central School in the Sherwood Gym at 57 Main St., in Elba. There will also be line dancing. Please come and have some old-fashioned fun and support the class of 2014!

Family Literacy Night at Batavia Middle School

Batavia Middle School Hosts Family Literacy Night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 for students and their families! This evening is dedicated to promoting literacy by giving parents and students the opportunity to attend exciting learning sessions led by the BMS staff.

The '50s musical 'Grease' performed at Batavia High School

"Grease" will be performed tonight and Saturday, beginning at 7, in the gym at Batavia High School. Cost is $8; students and seniors pay $7.

The '50s favorite is based on the book, lyrics and music of Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The Batavia High School Production Club performances are with special arrangements by Samuel French, Inc.

'Spay-ghetti Dinner' at Le Roy Legion Hall to benefit shelter animals

A "Spay-ghetti Dinner" sponsored by the Volunteers for Animals will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at the American Legion Hall, 53 W. Main St., in the Village of Le Roy. Eat in or take out.

The suggested donation is $10. Dinner will include spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. There will also be a silent auction, Chinese auction, music and fun!

Proceeds benefit the spaying and neutering of animal at the county shelter.

Big talent contest at Notre Dame to help fight pediatric cancer

The Make Some Noise Talent Show is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at the Notre Dame High School gym in Batavia. It's located at 73 Union St.

All monies raised will be donated to a new local chapter of the Make Some Noise Foundation, which raises money and awareness to defeat pediatric cancer.

Donations will be accepted at the door. The First Place prize is $150 and there will be other awards presented to the top talent.

Amanda's Rage plays at BCC to benefit cancer patient Austin Heineman

(Area band) Amanda's Rage will be cranking it up to help Austin Heineman in his battle with cancer. He has a very aggressive and rare form of cancer called Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor.

Come out Friday night, March 1, to join Austin's Army. This event will take place at the Batavia Country Club, at 7909 Batavia-Byron Road in Batavia, and last from 8 p.m. until midnight.
