GC 4-H Fur and Feather Club co-hosts rabbit and cavy youth show at Fairgrounds

Genesee County 4-H Fur and Feather Club along with Wyoming County 4-H Rabbit Ears Club are hosting a double rabbit and cavy youth show on Saturday, April 21, at the Genesee County Fairgrounds, 5056 E. Main Street Road, Batavia.

The show is open to all local youth ages 19 and younger (you don’t need to be a 4-H member). Showroom opens at 8 a.m., health checked by 9 a.m., judging promptly begins at 10 a.m.

Community poetry reading featuring JoNelle Toriseva

A group of local residents who read and write poetry has come together to host a poetry reading featuring JoNelle Toriseva as well local poets who attend the reading at 7 p.m., April 18, in the Reading Room at the Richmond Memorial Library.

The organizers are interested in meeting with other people in the community who enjoy poetry and might be interested in coming together more frequently for readings and workshops.

Country folk musician Marc Berger performs his music inspired by American West at Richmond library, free

The country folk music of Marc Berger will be performed at Richmond Memorial Library beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 7. 

The free concert, featuring music from his "Ride" album -- inspired by the American West, will be held in the Reading Room of the library, located at 19 Ross St. in the City of Batavia.

Tulip Painting Class for adults at Richmond library, registration required, $10 for supplies

Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross St., Batavia presents a Tulip Painting Class for adults at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10.

Learn how to paint tulips taught by decorative painter Krystyna Stefanik. Registration is required and $10 for supplies is due at the time of registration.

SHOW WILL GO ON: 'Into the Woods' at BHS, tonight and Saturday, plus matinee Sunday

Information from Music Theatre International and Batavia High School:

"Into the Woods" is an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make. It will be performed by the Batavia High School Production Club next month.

Book author James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the music and lyrics, take favorite storybook characters created by The Brothers Grimm and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece...and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

Congressman Collins holds veterans' services workshop tonight at County Building 2

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) will host a workshop for veterans to receive information about the many services our local, state and federal agencies have to offer tonight.

Congressman Collins is planning to be at the event around 5:45 p.m. to make welcoming remarks and greet those in attendance. It will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. at Genesee County Office Building Number 2, Large Conference Room, 3837 W. Main St. Road, Batavia.

East Pembroke Fire District holds workshop on insurance coverage for FY-2018

Please take notice that a Workshop meeting will be conducted by the East Pembroke Fire District to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m.

It will be held at the East Pembroke District Hall, located at 8655 Barrett Drive, Batavia

Purpose of the meeting is review of quotes submitted for district insurance coverage for the FY-18.

Artist's reception at GO ART! for El Salvadoran immigrant and artist Alex Segovia -- 'The Kite Boy'

"The Kite Boy" -- An Acrylic Exhibit by Alex Segovia will be displayed in the Oliver’s Gallery in the Seymour Dining Room at GO ART! in Downtown Batavia now through April 7.

There will be an artist's reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.

Segovia writes: "I was born September 4th, 1970, in El Salvador, Central America. I come from a very humble poor family. We were cotton pickers. I had a wonderful childhood, in spite of having limited resources and also my country having a civil war, that lasted 12 years.

Winter concert by Genesee Chorale at St. Joe's

Take a stroll down Memory Lane with a fun winter concert by the Genesee Chorale on Sunday, March 4 at St. Joseph's Catholic School.

The performance begins at 4 p.m. The school is located at 2 Summit St. in the City of Batavia.

The nonprofit ensemble of 75 members from Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming, Livingston and Erie counties will perform: "In My Life," "Blackbird," "Blowin' in the Wind," "As TIme Goes By," "Someone to Watch Over Me," and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."
