GCC freshman men's soccer forward William Stone (Little Hampton, United Kingdom) added to his list of accolades during his first season at Genesee, earning Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Freshman Male Athlete of the Year honors for 2015-2016. The announcement was made by the conference on Thursday.

Stone, also named the Region III Division III Player of the Year last fall, was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American First Team, All-Region III First Team and All-WNYAC First Team. He helped lead Genesee to the No. 1 ranking in the country and second regional title in school history. Stone played in and started 18 games for the Cougars and led the country in assists with 18 and was fifth in goals with 25. He totaled 68 points, the third highest mark in the country.

Genesee held the No. 1 ranking in the country for five consecutive weeks and won the Region III District A championship, advancing to the second NJCAA Men's Soccer National Tournament in school history. The 2015 team set the national record for most goals in a season with 141 and its 20 wins is the new school record for most victories in a single season. 

Genesee Community College athletics program endeavors to provide a quality and competitive intercollegiate athletics program consistent with the National Junior Collegiate Athletics Association (NJCAA) philosophy and the overall educational mission of Genesee Community College. Participation in collegiate athletics should be an extension of the total educational experience for the student athlete. The inherent philosophy emphasizes the athletic setting as a classroom used to teach character, commitment, work ethic, respect for differences, and the importance of sacrifice, teamwork, and cooperation.

Genesee County will host over 1,600 soccer players, coaches, families and fans at the Empire Cup College Showcase. The tournament will feature some of the Northeast United States and Canada’s top high school and early-college level soccer talent. Boys played on May 7-8 and girls will compete on May 14-15.

The influx of visitors is expected to create over a $250,000 economic impact during the span of both tournaments through staying in hotels and visiting local restaurants and shops. The tournament will generate more than 600 room nights at area hotels. The Genesee County Chamber of Commerce will assist visitors in finding local destinations by providing the new dining guide, maps, visitors guide and area coupons from participating merchants. 

Numerous college coaches attend and scout out potential recruits for their soccer programs. The games will be played at Batavia Sports Park and Genesee Community College.

The Genesee United Varsity Girls soccer team took home two more tourney wins this weekend, taking first place at the Attica Tourney on Saturday and the 9th annual Amanda Mabon Oakfield Tounament on Sunday.

United defeated Warsaw 8-1 in the championship game at the Attica tourney on Saturday. Maddie Farrell led the way with 4 goals. On Sunday the team defeated Byron-Bergen 2-0 in the Oakfield tournament final behind Destiny Satkowski's 2 goals and Carlyn Niver's 6 saves for the shutout.

This gives United 6 Tourney wins this indoor season, in addition to 6 second place finishes. Team members are:

Carlyn Niver (Spencerport), Destiny Satkowski (Medina), Maddie Farrell (Dansville), Katline Cartwright (Leroy), Jenny Yuhnke (Pavilion), Maddie Shoemaker (Cal-Mum), Leah Whiteman (Dansville), Autumn Jeffery (Cal-Mum), Gabi Dellapenna (Notre Dame), Mariah Elsenhemier (Albion), Olivia Brumfield (Cal-Mum), Elyse Snow (Batavia), and Addysen Dimatteo (Notre Dame). The team is coached by Chris Chilano and Jessie Rapone.

Next up for the ladies are the Byron-Bergen and Batavia Indoor tourney's this upcoming weekend.

For the fifth straight season the Genesee Community College men's soccer team will play for a Region III title after the No. 1 nationally-ranked Cougars rolled Mohawk Valley CC in the regional semifinals on Tuesday night, 8-0.

A pair of hat tricks sparked the No. 1 seed, which is now just three goals away from tying the all-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) single season mark for goals in a season (134).

Ricard Fernandez-Sarro and William Stone each scored three times for Genesee, with Fernandez-Sarro getting tallies in the 2^nd, 5^th and 49^th minutes and Stone scoring in the 32^nd, 41^st and 48^th minutes.

The Cougars' defense provided another strong effort, holding the Hawks to just two shots on goal. Connor Halsted and Lee Payne split time in net and made one save apiece.

Victor Obetta-Chinenye added two second half goals for the Cougars, in the 75^th and 77^th minutes respectively.

Stone also had two assists in the game and Fernandez-Sarro, Rafael Godoi, Sam King and Joao Falco each had an assist apiece.

The win, Genesee's 18^th of the season, is the new school record for most wins in a single season. The Cougars will play the winner of No. 4 SUNY Broome and No. 12 Niagara County CC (Oct. 28) in the regional finals on Saturday at noon at Herkimer College.

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team bowed out of the Region III Championships, falling to Tompkins-Cortland Community College on Tuesday night, 2-1.

TC3, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, scored less than four minutes into the first half to take a 1-0 lead.

Genesee, the No. 4 seed, dominated time of possession for the majority of the opening period and sent three shots on net but could not get the equalizer.

The Panthers extended their lead in the 54^th minute when Kristin Dake scored to make it 2-0.

The Cougars finally broke through in the 68^th minute when Carly Stefani finished a pass from Brianna VanAmeron to cut the TC3 lead down to one.

Genesee had a chance to tie in the 72^nd minute when a red card assessed to TC3 resulted in a penalty kick. Kayla Doyle's shot was turned aside by the Panthers' goalkeeper and the score remained 2-1.

GCC managed four shots down the stretch during the final 10-minutes of play, but could not find the back of the net and ends the season with an 11-6 record.

TC3 advances to the Region III Finals, which will take place at Herkimer College on Sunday.

The No. 5 nationally-ranked GCC women's soccer team bounced back after a road loss at SUNY Broome on Monday with a 5-2 win over Cayuga Community College at home on Wednesday afternoon.

Kayla Doyle put the Cougars in front in the 14th minute with her eighth goal of the season. Shawna Adams earned the assist.

Adams scored herself just six minutes later and Gabriella Garcea gave GCC a 3-0 going into halftime with a goal in the 40th minute.

The Spartans cut the Genesee lead to one with back-to-back goals in the 45th and 50th minutes to make a 3-2 game.

Nikki Mauro gave the Cougars an insurance goal and a 4-2 lead with a tally in the 59th  minute after a failed clear in the Cayuga end.

Doyle added her second goal of the game off of a penalty kick in the 63rd minute and GCC held Cayuga scoreless the rest of the way to improve to 8-2 on the season.

Mauro and Garcea also added an assist apiece and Katlynne Tubo made three saves in net. The Cougars outshot the Spartans 25-5 (shots on goal) in the game.

Genesee will return to action at home on Saturday when it hosts Erie CC for a 1 P.M. start.

The second-ranked Cougars made it 10 wins in a row to start the season, beating visiting Cayuga Community College 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Genesee took the lead just over four minutes into the game after Austin Richardson scored unassisted. William Stone followed just two minutes after with his first of three goals in the game, scoring off of an assist from Jack Speakman to make it 2-0 GCC.

Cayuga answered with a goal in the 18^th minute to cut the GCC lead down to one, but Stone responded a minute later finding the back of the net to put Genesee on top 3-1.

After a Spartans goal in the 25^th minute to make it a 3-2 game, Rafael Godoi sent Genesee into the half with a 4-2 lead, scoring unassisted in the 40^th minute.

GCC scored the first two goals of the second half as Stone and Richardson struck in the 45^th and 61^st minutes respectively. 

Cayuga netted its final goal on a penalty kick in the 62^nd minute and Genesee controlled possession the rest of the half to put away the visitors.

Godoi also added an assist and Connor Halstead and Lee Payne split time in net, combining to make six saves.

Genesee (10-0) will return to action at home on Saturday against Erie CC at 3 P.M.

The Genesee United u19 Girls soccer team took second place at the Fairport Invitational Tournament July 11-12. Burgundy Bartlett led the way with 3 goals over the weekend. Mariah Elsenheimer had two, and Sami Barniak and Destiny Satkowski each had one. Allison Danialek had 2 shutouts in goal over the weekend.

The ladies continue league play with game on 7/21 at Greece Cobras and on 7/23 at GCC v. Greece United, before heading to the Syracuse Invitational Tournament July 24-26.

The team is coached by Chris Chilano and Jessie Jaszko.

The 2015 fall schedule for the Genesee Community College men’s soccer team features five home contests including four in the month of September.

The 16-game regular season schedule begins on the road on Aug. 27 when the Cougars travel to North East, PA to take on Mercyhurst North East. Genesee will play in the Herkimer tournament on Aug. 29-30 and after a stop at Monroe Community College on Sep. 2, GCC will host Mohawk Valley CC in its home opener on the 5^th. The Cougars will have a quick turnaround and take the pitch the following day at home against Fulton-Montgomery CC before they head out on a three game road trip with stops at Corning CC (Sep. 9), Tompkins Cortland CC (Sep. 12) and Niagara County CC (Sep. 19).

GCC will host back-to-back home games on Sep. 23 (Cayuga CC) and 26 (Erie CC) before beginning the month of October on the road at SUNY Adirondack on the 5^th. The Cougars’ regular season home finale will take place on the 7^th against Jamestown CC and three consecutive road games will end the regular season with the final date at Herkimer College on Oct. 17.  

The Region III playoffs will begin on Oct. 24 with a sub-regional matchup and the semifinals will follow on the 27^th. Herkimer College will be the site of the regional finals, which will take place on Oct. 31. Herkimer will also host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament, which will run Nov. 12-15.

Genesee is coming off of an 11-6 season in 2014 which included a Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) regular season title and a fourth consecutive trip to the regional finals. GCC will try for its first NJCAA tournament appearance since 2011, when the Cougars advanced to the national title game.

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team will play for the 2014 Region III Division III Group B title this Saturday after winning in shutout fashion in the semifinals on Tuesday night, 4-0 over visiting Mohawk Valley Community College.

It took less than a minute for the second-seeded Cougars to grab the lead in the first half against the No. 7 seed. Kathryn Springsteen found the back of the net just 39-seconds in off of a corner kick to give GCC a 1-0 advantage. Kayla Doyle was credited with the assist on Springsteen's fifth goal of the year.

It remained 1-0 until the 30^th minute when Ashley Makowski struck, heading one in off of a corner kick by Springsteen to give Genesee a 2-0 lead.

The Cougars continued to roll in the second half, grabbing a 3-0 lead in the 46^th minute. Doyle buried her 14^th goal of the fall off of an assist by Makowski.

Makowski ended the scoring in the 59^th minute with her second goal of the game to give GCC a 4-0 lead. The goal came off of a free-kick.

The Genesee defense was solid again, allowing just four shots by the visitors. Maddie Potter made four saves in net to earn her 10^th shutout win of the season.

GCC advances to the regional finals which will be held on Saturday at Tompkins-Cortland Community College. The Cougars will take on Broome Community College, which defeated Jefferson Community College 1-0 in the regional semifinals on Tuesday night. Game time is set for 10 a.m. and the winner will advance and represent Region III Division III Group B in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament.

For the fourth season in a row, the Genesee Community College men's soccer team will play for a regional championship after the fourth-seeded Cougars knocked off visiting No. 5 Tompkins-Cortland Community College, 2-0 on Tuesday night in the Region III Division III semifinals.

Darius Johnson put an end to just over 25-minutes of scoreless play in the first half with what would prove to be the game-winning goal, off of an assist by Ikuma Hirano. The goal was his seventh of the season.

GCC did not need any more offense as the defense stepped up and held the Panthers in check. Although TC3 managed 13 shots on the night, only five were on net and Connor Halsted made all five saves.

Johnson added an insurance goal in the 76^th minute to give Genesee a two-goal cushion, and the Cougars held off the Panthers the rest of the way to advance to the regional finals.

GCC will take on Herkimer County Community College, the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the top-ranked team in the country. The Generals defeated Finger Lakes Community College 8-0 on Tuesday night in the second semifinals match.

The finals match will take place at Tompkins-Cortland Community College on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., with the winner representing Region III Division III Group A in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament.

 Genesee lost its only regular season matchup with Herkimer on Oct. 18, 4-0.

Up two spots to No. 8 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Poll, the Genesee Community College women's soccer team remained unbeaten at home this season with an overtime win against visiting Finger Lakes Community College on Wednesday night.

Both teams battled for possession through the first half with very few scoring chances.

The Cougars broke a scoreless tie late in the 21^st minute when Ashley Makowski turned and fired a lefty bid from just inside the 18 that found the bottom right corner of the net to put GCC in front 1-0. It was Makowski's 12^th goal of the season.

It remained 1-0 into halftime and late into the second half before the Lakers tied the game at one apiece with a goal in the 76^th minute, the first goal allowed at home by Genesee this season.

A scoreless end to regulation sent the game into overtime and in the 8^th minute of the first extra-session, Kathryn Springsteen let a shot go from about 30 yards out that snuck under the crossbar and into the net to give Genesee a 2-1 win, improving its overall record to 11-3.

Maddie Potter made two saves in net for GCC, which improves to 1-2 in overtime games this season.

The goal allowed to FLCC ended over 525-minutes of play in which Genesee kept opponents from scoring at home this season.

GCC will end the regular season at home on Saturday against Herkimer County Community College at 1 p.m.

The Genesee Community College men's soccer team won its fifth game in a row on Wednesday night in a low-scoring affair against visiting Finger Lakes Community College.

Ikuma Hirano scored his 10^th goal of the season in the 4^th minute, a goal that would prove to be the game-winner as neither team would find the back of the net again throughout the night.

Connor Halsted made six saves for Genesee, including a diving stop in the 81^st minute to keep the Lakers scoreless. He earned his fifth straight shutout victory and eighth shutout win of the season.

The Cougars were outshot 9-6 on the night, but improve to 9-6 overall on the year with the win and will end the regular season on Saturday when they host No. 1 Herkimer County Community College for a 3 p.m. start.

Winners of five out of its last six contests entering Monday night, the Genesee Community College men's soccer team improved its overall season record to 6-6 with a 6-0 shutout win over SUNY Adirondack.

Neither team registered a shot during the first 15 minutes of the contest, until Jake Miller cashed in GCC's first goal in the 20th minute, converting a pass from Darius Johnson to put the Cougars in front.

Johnson struck in the 30th minute as the rain fell to give Genesee a 2-0 lead and Sam M'buru made it 3-0 in the 40th minute, scoring his second goal of the season.

The Cougars held possession for most of the game and the Genesee defense kept the Timberwolves to just three shots on goal.

Ikuma Hirano added goals in the 66th and 70th minutes and Dell Storey tallied his first goal of the year in the 88th minute to round out the scoring.

Connor Halstead and Bradley Paserk split time in net for GCC. Halstead made one save and Paserk stopped two.

The Cougars are now .500 for the first time this season and will return to action on Wednesday at Jamestown Community College.
