2020 GC 4-H Market Animal Auction live online, ends 6 p.m. Thursday

The 2020 Genesee County 4-H Market Animal Auction will be held online. The sale will feature high quality meat animal projects raised by local Genesee County 4-H youth.

This year’s sale features approximately 40 meat chicken pairs, 14 goats, 14 lambs, one dairy steer, 14 beef steers and 37 hogs. Meat chickens will be sold as a pair of processed chickens while all other animals will be sold live, by the pound.

Vacation Bible School at First Presbyterian Church of Batavia: Go on a virtual quest for the King's armor, preregister

First Presbyterian Church in Batavia is offering free Vacation Bible School for 4-year-old children through fifth grade from Aug. 10 to 14.

Hey kids, get ready to join the Knights of North Castle on a quest for the King's armor! The materials used are from Cokesbury's Vacation Bible School (cokesburykids.com).

This is a virtual experience with the first day opening worship in person, and to pick up storybooks and craft bags in the church parking lot at 300 E. Main St. That will be from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10.

Drive-thru food distribution event Oakfield-Alabama CSD

The Salvation Army in partnership with The United Way, City Church, Byron-Bergen Central School District, Oakfield-Alabama Central School District and Foodlink would like to announce the schedule for the upcoming drive-thru food distributions.

When participating in this distribution please have your trunk/hatch/backseat cleared out to receive three to four boxes of food. Volunteers are not permitted to move your property due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Vigil against racism and in support of Black Lives Matter at Batavia YWCA -- all are welcome

A vigil against racism and in support of Black Lives Matter will be held at the Batavia YWCA at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

The event is organized by "Community Leaders of Genesee County."

Featured speakers will include: Rev. Dr. William Wilkenson and Rev. Shiela Campbell McCullough.

The YWCA is located at 301 North St. in the City of Batavia.

All are welcome.

"Nocturnal Fliers: Insects that Go Bump in the Night" is a learning opportunity that will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 10 at Genesee County Park & Forest. It is located at 11095 Bethany Center Road, East Bethany.

It’s a different world when the sun goes down! Wayne Gall, Ph.D., will attract night-flying insects to a white sheet with a mercury vapor light. See these mysterious insects up close to identify them and learn cool facts about their natural history.

Title reveal for 2020 Richmond Reads -- event take place on library's front steps

Richmond Memorial Library will host a reveal of the 2020 Richmond Reads Selection at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, on the front steps of the library, weather permitting.

Richmond Reads is a community one-book program that encourages members of the community to read the same book and engage in discussion. A selection committee reads diligently to choose the title, narrowing down dozens of contenders.

Red Cross Blood Drive, with COVID-19 antibodies testing available, at Darien Town Hall

Beginning today and for a limited time, the American Red Cross is testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies, providing donors insight into whether they have been exposed to this coronavirus. At the same time, there continues to be an urgent need for blood donations as hospitals resume surgeries and treatments that require blood products.

Antibody testing will indicate if the donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to this coronavirus, regardless of whether they developed symptoms.

Mobile Food pantry at Byron-Bergen Jr./Sr. High School parking lot

The Salvation Army in Partnership with Bergen Evangelical Presbyterian Church and Foodlink will be holding a Mobile Pantry food distribution Wednesday, July 8th, at the Byron-Bergen Jr./Sr. High School parking lot, 6917 W. Bergen Road in Bergen.

It goes until all the food has been given out. 

This distribution will take place every other week at the school parking lot until the end of August.

'Batavia Chalk-Out' -- an event to express feelings with chalk art about social injustice and racial inequality

A trio of organizers is planning an event Sunday afternoon, June 14, in Downtown Batavia. Lindsay Wrobel, Verneda Peete and Ken Marrocco, are holding the "Batavia Chalk-Out" from 2 to 4 p.m.

It starts at the International Honorary Peace Garden at Batavia, located at 111 Main St. next to the Holland Land Office Museum. It is expected fan out down Main Street from there.

Meditations -- the same as are done in Reiki class -- via Zoom at Blue Pearl Yoga

Everyone is invited to attend a Zoom meditation meeting tonight via Zoom at Blue Pearl Yoga.

The meeting starts at 8 p.m. and will last probably 45 minutes or so. 

Meditations that are done in Reiki classes will be featured. It's nothing complicated and everyone can join, no experience is required.

GC Democratic Committee and GC Young Democrats host virtual candidate forum for 61st NYS Senate District

The Genesee County Democratic Committee and The Genesee County Young Democrats invite the public to participate in a virtual forum featuring candidates running for the Democratic nomination for the 61st NYS Senate District.

Participating candidates include Kim Smith, Jacqui Berger and Joan Seamans. We will also be joined by special guest, NY27 Congressional Candidate Nate McMurray.

The event will be streamed live on YouTube here from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on May 28th.

Richmond library Lunchtime Book Chat via Zoom

Richmond Memorial Library and the Books Sandwiched In Committee are pleased to announce a new online program called “Lunch Time Book Chats,” which will take place on Wednesdays in May at noon. This program will be conducted online via Zoom  on Wednesday, May 13, Wednesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 27. Committee members and guests will offer short reviews of fiction and non-fiction titles. The lineup so far includes a book about Bob Dylan, a new mystery by Peter Swanson, new historical fiction and more!

Reiki share at Blue Pearl Yoga with Joni Yazkulski via Zoom

This month's Reiki share at Blue Pearl Yoga in Batavia will be held via a Zoom meeting. This will be different from Reiki shares that we have in person.

Participants will need to be there at 12:30 p.m. and are asked to stay for the full time (1:30-ish).

There will be a short talk and then the actual share will start at approximately 12:45 p.m. This will give everyone a chance to enter and a little time in case anyone is having an issue getting on.

DONATE food: Drop off at Northgate church's North Campus

Help is needed in replenishing local emergency food supplies, according to The Salvation Army.

Northgate Free Methodist Church will be hosting a food drive to support The Salvation Army each Monday during "New York on PAUSE." Please drop off food donations at Northgate North Campus (8160 Bank Street Road), Mondays during the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
