Oktoberfest at St. Paul's Lutheran Church & School

St. Paul Lutheran Church & School in Batavia is hosting Oktoberfest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1. It will take place on the back lawn area of the church at 31 Washington Ave.

St. Paul invites all crafters, local businesses, and organizations to host a booth. If you would like a booth, contact St. Paul at 585-343-0488. Booths are $30 each.

Oktoberfest admission is free!

Free 'Pasta for Peace' dinner with local author Tom Rivers as guest speaker

Local author Tom Rivers will be the guest speaker at the first free spaghetti dinner, "Pasta for Peace," at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 15, at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Main St. in Batavia.

The dinner is sponsored by Pax Christi Genesee County. Tom Rivers, who authored "Farm Hands," will share his "food for thought" -- his first-hand experience with farm workers, hard work and lessons from Western New York fields.

Batavia Blue Devils Athletic Hall of Fame

The 10th annual Batavia Blue Devils Athletic Hall of Fame gala will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Terry Hills Restaurant and Banquet Facility. It is sponsored by the Batavia Coaches Association.

Cost is $30. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. with dinner and the induction ceremony to follow at 6 p.m. Terry Hills is located at 5122 Clinton St. Road in the Town of Batavia. Phone is 343-0860.

Rotary Club's Oktober Brew & Vino Fest & Corvette Raffle

The Batavia Rotary Club's Oktober Brew & Vino Fest & Corvette Raffle is set for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Batavia Downs Casino & Racetrack.

Tickets are $20 with tastings, $5 without.

The evening features beer and wine tasting, snacks, $10 in free casino play and live German/American music by the Genesee Valley Band. There will also be live harness racing and a free commemorative glass to the first 300 entrants. Plus, a chance to win a Corvette!

Salvation Army's 36th annual Harvest Festival with big sales and spud dinner

The 36th annual Harvest Festival put on by The Salvation Army is set for 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7.

It will be held at its community center, located at 529 E. Main St. in the City of Batavia.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be a mega rummage sale, featuring toys, books linenes, housewares, bric-a-brac, hourly grab bag sales and much more.

From 9 a.m. to noon there will be a blow-out bake sale with famous apple pies, sweets, farm produce and coffee.

Stafford Historical Society's annual summer ice cream social

Our featured speaker will be architect Rick Hauser, of Perry. His program will be on the subject of inventing new business models for building rehabilitation: short term versus long term.

Bluegrass concert at Oakfield-Alabama Baptist Church

Like to hear a good banjo and fiddle? Well, you're in for a treat. The Wissmann Family will perform live bluegrass music starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Oakfield-Alabama Baptist Church.

Nation's leading harness racing driver at Batavia Downs

Tim Tetrick, also known as “The Bionic Man,” makes his first-ever Batavia Downs & Casino appearance on Wednesday night (Aug. 3) when the New York Sire Stakes 2-year-old pacing fillies roll into town.

First race post time is 6:40 p.m.

The 30-year-old Tetrick is currently leading all of North America in wins with 457 and purse earnings totaling $7,773,683. Throughout a career that began in 1998, he’s won 6,425 and his drives have earned $98,024,539.

BBQ, raffles to benefit Pembroke crash victims

The family of Sonya Charache has organized a benefit at Clor's Meat Market on Sunday (July 31) to help her and the passengers -- three children -- who were injured in a horrific car crash on July 7 in Pembroke.

There will be raffles and barbecue chicken lunches, including two side dishes and a roll. Cost is $8.50. Time is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until sold out.

In addition to Sonya, proceeds will benefit Jackson Gilbert, Garrett Talbot, and Kayda Charache.

Batavia Music and Arts Advocacy Group to meet

The Batavia Music and Arts Advocacy Group (B-MAA) will hold an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the GOArt! building (corner of Bank and Main streets in Downtown Batavia.

For this meeting, RSVPs are encouraged for seating purposes.

All parents of children involved in music and art in the Batavia City School District are encouraged to attend.

'Held over performance' at Yorkshire Hall

After a sold-out world premiere of its dinner show,"13 Memento Mori Lane," Yorkshire Hall in Pembroke has announced a "held over" performance at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13.

The original "comedy/mystery/farce," is accompanied by a formal dinner. A special introductory ticket price of $22.95 includes the dinner, show and gratuity. Tickets are limited to advance sales only, and can be ordered by calling (585) 762-8160 or (716) 474-4300.

Washington Avenue Players present 'The First Annual Business Brains Competition'

The Washington Avenue Players will proudly present "The First Annual City Business Brains Competition" -- an original comedic dinner theater presentation, on July 28, 29 and 30.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Program begins at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall, St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 31 Washington Ave. in the City of Batavia.

Annual home and garden tour

Here's a press release about Sunday's local home and garden tour.

The Landmark Society of Genesee County, Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners and St. James Episcopal Church are collaborating for a July 10 home and garden tour.

The event will run from 1 – 5 p.m. and 11 homes are included on the tour. The ticket price is $20, $15 for Landmark Society members, and can be purchased at Harrington’s Greenhouse in Batavia and the St. James Church office.

Three-day MooseCreek kicks off in Le Roy to benefit Mercy Flight

The Le Roy Moose Family Center will host MooseCreek 2011 July 15-17, coinciding with Le Roy's Oatka Festival.

The annual party under the big tent in the parking lot benefits Mercy Flight. The center is located at 21 Bank St. along the banks of the mighty Oatka Creek.
