A two-vehicle accident is reported in the median in front of Arby's at 212 W. Main St. in Batavia. One driver is complaining of whiplash. City fire and Mercy medics are responding.

The location is between Holland Avenue and Oak Street.

Officer called to Target parking lot for report of dog locked in vehicle

An officer is called to the Target parking lot for a report of a dog locked in a Chevy Sonic. "The windows are only down one inch," according to what the dispatcher was told.

The officer on scene reports the air-conditioner is running and the dog appears fine.

But the officer is going inside the store to try and locate the owner.

It's 83 degrees now and overcast, with 55-percent humidity, according to the National Weather Service.

Grass fire across from College Village sparked by downed wire

A downed wire that was sparking has caused a grass fire at 8076 Batavia Stafford Town Line Road. Flames are showing. Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding. The location is between the dead end and College Village.

National Grid has been notified; no ETA.

Traffic will be stopped on the roadway in order to extinguish the blaze.

Accident blocking traffic at Main and Center

A two-car accident with no injuries that is blocking traffic is reported at Center and Main streets in Downtown Batavia. City fire and police are responding.

Possible school bus accident reported at Batavia High School

A possible school bus accident with a person down in the parking lot is reported at Batavia High School. City fire and Mercy medics are responding to 260 State St.

UPDATE 9:28 a.m.: A first responder says this is NOT a school bus accident; it's strictly a medical issue. He said he believes a school bus driver was the reporting party.

Accident blocking traffic on West Main Street in the city

A two-vehicle accident is reported at 385 W. Main St. in the city. It is blocking traffic. City fire, Mercy medics and police are responding.

The caller is a driver with a possible head injury.

It's in front of Falcone Electric.

UPDATED: Vehicle fire in driveway near trailer reported in Byron

A vehicle fire in the driveway with several exposures is reported at 6485 Byron Holley Road, Byron. It is near a trailer.

The location is between North Byron Road and North Bergen Road.

Byron Fire Department is in command and South Bryon arrived for mutual aid. Elba is en route with fire police for traffic control.

Command calls for Route 237 and North Byron Road to be shut down.

UPDATE 3:38 p.m.: Byron command advises Elba that fire police are needed at Pumpkin Hill -- Route 237 at Byron Road, and also at Searles and North Bergen roads.

UPDATE 3:48 p.m.: Command also wants fire police stationed at Byron and Warboys roads. Bergen is standing by in Byron's fire hall.

UPDATE 3:49 p.m.: Mercy medics are called to the scene in nonemergency mode.

UPDATE May 20: The daughter-in-law of the vehicle owner sent us these photos of the burned-out vehicle and an email identifying it as a brand-new Buick Encore with only 300 miles on it.

She wrote: "Owner, Arnold Brakenbury, 81, of Cockram Road, Byron, had just turned off the vehicle and exited moments before it burst into flames. This is a 2021 model, which was not part of GM’s recent massive recall for a part causing transmission oil leaks and a number of vehicle fires. Perhaps GM did not resolve the problem, as it claimed, and should expand its recall?"

Two-vehicle accident with injuries reported on westbound Thruway

A two-vehicle accident with injuries is reported on the westbound Thruway in the area of mile marker 390.3.

Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding.

UPDATE 9:21 a.m.: A first responder is on scene with "a semi-truck and a vehicle, not blocking."

Motorcycle and passenger vehicle crash reported on westbound Thruway

A motorcycle crash is reported on the westbound I-90 in the area of mile marker 388.4.

One motorcycle is on fire but a total of three motorcycles may be involved, along with a passenger vehicle. CPR is in progress.

Town of Batavia Fire Department is responding along with Mercy medics and NYS Police.

UPDATE 1:11 p.m.: The westbound Thruway is shut down; eastbound traffic is moving slowly. The passsenger vehicle that is involved is on fire. Mercy Flight is called to the scene.

UPDATE 1:13 p.m.: Fires are knocked down.

UPDATE 1:35 p.m.: Mercy Flight is airborne and headed to Strong Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 1:42 p.m.: Town of Batavia fire assignment is back in service.

Possible oil spill reported on Liberty Street in the city

A possible oil spill is reported in a parking lot on Liberty Street in the city. The quantity was not relayed by the dispatcher. The caller was not sure when the spill occured.

City fire is on scene.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m.: Command ask for someone from the Department of Public Works to respond to advise how best to clean up the spill, which is also on the sidewalk. Command says a few bystanders at the scene report the spill occurred three or four days ago.

Transformer explosion reported on Red Mill Road, Le Roy

A transformer explosion occurred at 7497 Red Mill Road in Le Roy. A pole and wires are on fire. Le Roy Engine #62 just arrived on scene.

A caller to dispatch reported hearing two explosions and smoke in the area.

UPDATE 3:38 p.m.: Command reports no injuries, calls for fire police to shut down the road.

A two-car accident with minor injuries is reported at Oak Street and Prospect Avenue in the city. City fire is responding along with Mercy medics and medics from Le Roy.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: The people involved are signs-offs. Le Roy medics are returning from the scene, in service.
