Season opening of the Genesee Country Farmers' Market in Downs parking lot

When it opens for the season June 9, Genesee Country Farmers' Market will be celebrating its 41st year of providing "Locally Grown" fresh fruits, vegetables, and specialty items to the Greater Batavia Area.
 
The Genesee Country Farmers' Market will take place in the Batavia Downs Parking lot located on Park Avenue. Market hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays with the season running from Tuesday, June 9th, through Friday, Oct. 30th.

Mercy Flight WNY and Mercy EMS hold annual open house at Home Depot, Batavia

Mercy Flight WNY and Mercy EMS are pleased to be teaming up with Home Depot in Batavia for the Annual Mercy Flight/Mercy EMS Open House celebrating International Fire & EMS Safety on Saturday June 20th from 12– 4 p.m.

Batavia Home Depot, located at 4181 Veterans Memorial Drive, will once again open their parking lot for a family craft area, face painting, balloon art as well as displays from various Genesee County fire companies, EMS, law enforcement, and community organizations.

Spaghetti dinner & benefit for sons of Attica murder victim Doug Mess

There will be a benefit for Attica murder victim Doug Mess's boys starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at the Alexander Firemen's Recreation Hall, located at 10708 Alexander Road in Alexander. Enjoy a delicious spaghetti dinner for $10, eat in or carry out. Tickets are presale and also available at the door. There will be 50/50 raffles, basket raffles, and a baked goods table. The first Beertavia craft beer festival is this afternoon at Jackson and Center streets Downtown

Today is the inaugural Beertavia, a craft beer festival featuring more than 50 brews. The event takes place in the parking lot at Jackson and Center streets from 3 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $40; VIP tickets are $55; designated drivers pay $10. Tickets are available at Angotti Beverages, located at 61 Jakcson St., or from eventbrite.com.

Elba firefighters host spaghetti dinner and raffles to benefit ECS student with cancer

The Elba Fire Department is hosting a Pasta Dinner to benefit Elba Central School senior Michael Pfendler in his fight against testicular cancer. It will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at the Elba Firemen's Rec Hall, located at 7143 Route 98 in Elba.

Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for kids.

Dinner includes pasta with meatballs & sauce, coleslaw, bread, drink and dessert.

Also available will be raffles, Chinese auction baskets, 50/50, and more.

Terry Abrams of the Tonawanda Historical Society gives presentation on Ely Parker

Terry C. Abrams, administrative coordinator of WNYAHA and vice-president of the Tonawanda Reservation Historical Society will be the speaker at the Stafford Historical Society's Wednesday, May 27, monthly meeting. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall located at the corner of Route 237 and Route 5. His program will be a power point presentation on the life of Ely Parker and his contributions to local and national history.

Mary Jemison 'White Seneca Woman of the Genesee' featured at Stafford Historical Society meeting

The Stafford Historical Society, on Wednesday, April 22, will host a program featuring Gretchen Murray Sepik, who will speak in the persona of Mary Jemison --White Seneca Woman of the Genesee. As Mary, Gretchen will tell of her life among the Senecas and how she adapted to and came to love her new community.

Letchworth State Park land was once owned by Mary Jemison where, at the Council Grounds, she is buried and where a statue has been erected in her honor. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the town hall located at 8903 Route 237.

Ascension Parish Fruit of the Vine Wine Tasting 'Fun Raiser'

Ascension Parish will host the Fruit of the Vine Wine Tasting Fun Raiser ™ on Sunday, April 25th from 5-8 p.m.

This year the event is open to the general public and for adults 21 years of age and older (proper identification is required). This event will feature premium Finger Lakes wines handcrafted by Eagle Crest and O-Neh-Da Vineyards of Hemlock Lake.

We will cover what this disease is, effective management strategies for your garden and what to do if it does infect your plants. Our guest speaker will be Elizabeth Buck, a member of the Cornell University Vegetable Team.

Special event at Larry's Steakhouse to benefit Crossroads House

"Come In From the Cold for Crossroads"

Larry's Steakhouse is opening this Sunday to host a special event. Beginning at 2 p.m. you can listen to music by the Old Hippies, enjoy complimentary chili and munchies and even enter a Euchre tournament.

Guest bartenders at the cash bar will donate all gratuities to Crossroads House. This event is brought to you in part by the Genesee County Libertarian Party with a focus on compassion and friendship and without political agenda.

Join us for an afternoon of fun entertainment. The event concludes at 5 p.m.

Guided snowshoeing hike at GC Park & Forest, East Bethany

Get out and take in a winter wonderland of snow-covered trees, ice-covered ponds, and winter wildlife activity with a snowshoe hike at Genesee County Park and Forest, offered every Saturday in February.

Daytime hikes cost is $15 per person. Snowshoes are provided, or you may bring your own.

Hikes begin at 1 p.m. at the Nature Center with a brief history of snowshoeing and a lesson on walking in snowshoes. No previous experience is needed. On the trail, your Naturalist guide points out signs of wildlife activity in the woodlands as you take in your surroundings.
