Dodgeball tournament at Notre Dame to benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

There wilI be a charity dodgeball tournament at Notre Dame High School on Saturday, March 9, to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
 
It starts at 4 p.m. Eight-person teams will complete in the gymnasium.
 
There will be a Chinese auction, silent auction, and 50/50 the day of the event. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
 
The school is located at 73 Union St. in the City of Batavia.

Local author Gregory Van Dussen speaks on 'Transfiguration and Hope' at Batavia First Presbyterian Church

Author Gregory Van Dussen, Ph.D., will speak about hope, your future and more on Thursday, March 21 at Batavia First Presbyterian Church.

This is a literary evening event that offers the gift of hope and is intended to nourish your mind and broaden your vision for life. It is open to the public and free to attend.

Time is 7 to 8:30 p.m. The church is located at 300 E. Main St. in Batavia.

Van Dussen's new book is called "Transfiguration and Hope: A Conversation Across Time and Space," published by Wipf and Stock.

Deadline is March 22 to buy tickets for Comedy Show on March 29 benefiting Ricky Palermo Foundation

The nonprofit Ricky Palermo Foundation presents a Comedy Show starring Moody McCarthy and Nick Marra at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 29, at Ascension Parish Hall.

Pat Mancuso is the show's master of ceremonies. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $50. VIP packages are available for $500 for a table of eight -- includes VIP seating, signage and table wine.

Proceeds will benefit Rochester Regional Health, Batavia YMCA, Strong Memorial Hospital Spine Center and The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

Students in CTE Culinary Club host Pop-Up Dinner, tickets are $25

The Batavia Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center’s Culinary Club will host a Pop-Up Dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11.

The public is invited to this three-course dinner that be held in the Culinary Arts Dining Room at the Batavia CTE Center, located at 8250 State Street Road, Batavia.

Chef Tracy Burgio is the Culinary Arts Instructor at the Batavia CTE Center. She noted how events like these give student real-world experiences as the event is student driven.

GCC's 38th annual Fashion Show, theme is 'Limitless'

Genesee Community College Fashion Program students will hold the 38th Annual Fashion Show 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.

This year's theme "Limitless" was chosen by the students of the Fashion Program. It is a no boundaries, inclusive, inspirational and innovative take on fashion.

The show will feature a variety of colors, creativity and originality in an array of designed and styled scenes.

Houghton College Wind Ensemble performs free concert at Elba Central School

The Wind Ensemble of the Greatbatch School of Music at Houghton College will kick off its 2019 tour by performing Friday evening at Elba Central School.

Comprised of nearly 40 students and faculty, the wind ensemble will perform a diverse musical program in more than 12 communities throughout New York, Vermont and Connecticut from March 1 through 10.

Concert offerings range from hymn settings and classic band repertoire to compositions by George Gershwin and Percy Grainger.

The Oakfield-Alabama Elementary Student Council, in conjunction with the Genesee Community College Baseball Team, are excited to welcome the Harlem Wizards Basketball Team to Oakfield-Alabama Elementary High School Gymnasium on Thursday, Feb. 28.
 
The switch to the high school gymnasium was made due to higher than anticipated ticket sales.
 
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the game begins at 7 o'clock.

Reel Discussion at Richmond library: 'The Children Act'

Benefit at Darien Fire Hall to help buy an all-terrain 'Trackchair' for Darien's Ashley McCormack

Ashley McCormack is a spirited 18-year-old who lives in Darien and has been confined to a wheelchair since she was 10.

When she was little she used to go fishing with her dad on Hamlin Beach along the shores of Lake Ontario. They would also hike trails in Letchworth State Park and go camping.

Life as she knew it and her outdoor adventures were cruelly curtailed by the onslaught of ataxia-telangiectasia syndrome or Louis-Bar syndrome. She was diagnosed with it at age 8 and by 10 she unable to walk on her own.

'Community for Understanding' monthly discussion at St. Mark's in Le Roy -- topic is migrant ministry

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church’s monthly discussion series called “Community for Understanding” will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.

Guest speaker Rev. James Renfrew, minister at the First Presbyterian Church of Byron, will speak on migrant ministry.

Fundraiser for cancer patient Joe Trigilio at Batavia Downs

There will be a fundraiser to help cancer patient Joe Trigilio at Batavia Downs Gaming & Hotel from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 24.

Joe was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and is currently undergoing treatment at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo.

During this time, his medical expenses have grown exponentially and he could use the community's help.

Please come out and support Joe and the Trigilio Family during this very challenging time in their lives.
