Great Batavia Train Show at GCC's Richard C. Call Arena

The Genesee Society of Model Engineers announces that their semi-annual Great Batavia Train Show will be held at the Richard C. Call Arena in Batavia on Sunday, Nov. 11. The new venue on the campus of Genesee Community College offers unmatched convenience and for attendees and vendors.

Public invited to panel discussion on opioid epidemic at Byron-Bergen Jr./Sr. High School

On Wednesday, Nov. 7, the Byron-Bergen Jr./Sr. High School welcomes the public to a panel discussion about the nationwide opioid epidemic. The event features experts in the field of addiction, as well as an opioid addiction survivor.

Alexander Fire Department hosts annual Fall Gun Raffle at rec hall

The Alexander Fire Department will be hosting its annual Fall Gun Raffle at the rec hall from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3rd.

Tickets are $25, which will include 25 guns and four cash prizes.

Also, floor raffles with eight guns, 50/50, pull tabs and door raffles will be included throughout the evening. Only 975 tickets will be sold.

Ticket admits one person.

Annual reading of the works of author John Gardner at the Pok-A-Dot

The annual reading from the works of Batavia's best-known author, John Gardner, will be read at the Pok-A-Dot on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8 to 9 p.m.

This event is sponsored by the John Gardner Society.

It is free and open to the public.

The Pok-A-Dot diner is located on the corner of Ellicott and Summit streets in the City of Batavia.

Turkey Night at Byron Fire Hall, proceeds benefit fire department

Saturday, Nov. 3rd, Annual Turkey Night at Byron Fire Hall on Route 262, doors open at 4 p.m., free hot turkey sandwich dinner, homemade ham & bean soup, beverages and snacks. Dinner served at 5 p.m.

Byron Fire Hall is located at 6357 E. Main St., Byron.

This fun family event is a great time to bring a group your family and friends, enjoy a meal, games and join in some turkey, ham and more raffles, 50/50 raffle and pull tabs.

'Spirit and Skivvies' event at Byron Fire Hall to help recovering addicts

On Sunday, Nov. 4th, starting at noon at the Byron Fire Hall the fourth annual Spirit and Skivvies event will be held.

It is located at Byron Fire Hall, 6357 E. Main St., Byron.

This unique event was started three years ago by Wendy and Tony Frongetta, in memory of their good friend, Mikel Anderson. Mikel passed away in 2015 of an accidental drug overdose. Although Mikel struggled with addiction, he was in recovery and dedicated his life to helping others and those who helped him.

Opening reception at Moonjava Cafe for 'Art of the Town' exhibit: works by disabled artists

Organizers are making an open call for entries to "Art of the Town," a free public art exhibition at the Moonjava Café at 56 Harvester Ave., south of McKinley Avenue in Batavia.

There will be an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

The evening reception will showcase two-dimensional work.

The reception at Moonjava Café is in support of the ARTiculations Ability Exhibition Program, which regularly exhibits work by artists who are disabled at the Independent Living Center in Batavia.

Arc of Genesee Orleans Chili & Chowder Fest & Bake Sale & Basket Raffle

Arc of Genesee Orleans annual Chili & Chowder Fest & Bake Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Arc Community Center.

It is located at 38 Woodrow Road in Batavia.

There will also be grilled cheese sandwiches for purchase in addtion to the hearty, homemade chili and chowder. Take-outs available.

Early tickets will be available only from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16.

Tickets, both presale Friday and day-of-the-event Saturday, are available only at the Arc Community Center on Woodrow Road.

Coffee Talk at City Church -- Outback: Support and encouragement for families and friends struggling with addiction

If you have a friend or family member struggling with addiction, consider connecting with others in the same situation at a get-together at City Church -- Outback on Saturday Dec. 8.

"Coffee Talk" will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 210 E. Main St., Downtown Batavia. It will feature a keynote speaker -- TBA.

Join others for a relaxed time of support, encouragement and coffee, of course!

GO ART! dedicates Tavern 2.o.1 to The Batavia Club, hosts reception for artists of two new exhibits

The GO ART! Board of Directors and staff are excited to announce the dedication of Tavern 2.o.1 inside GO ART! at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18.
 
The public is invited to join them in celebrating the long lasting impact The Batavia Club has had on the organization. The men’s social club that resided at 201 E. Main St., Batavia, from 1887 to 2000. It generously sold the building, the only remaining example in Genesee County of a business establishment of the early 19th century, to GO ART!

Halloween Party at Little Guppies Childcare in Bergen, the public is invited

Since opening Little Guppies Childcare three years ago, Amy Hathaway has been putting on a Halloween party for her students.

“We had so much fun with it, this year we decided to open it up to the community,” Hathaway said.

The party is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20 at Little Guppies Childcare at 42 Rochester St.

Several vendors have been invited, including Girl Scouts, Cal-Mum Cheerleaders, a new dance and gymnastics company from Batavia and some crafters.

The public is invited to a meet-and-greet with the City of Batavia's new City Manager Martin Moore on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
