Job Fair at Career Center
The Genesee County Job Development Bureau along with its partners at the One Stop Career Center invites you to attend our Job Fair.
The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the career center, located at 487 E. Main St. in Eastown Plaza, Batavia.
At least 30 local employers that are actively hiring for multiple job openings will be there.
If you would like to be better prepared to attend the Job Fair, you are encouraged to attend a workshop to hone your job-hunting skills:
Opening Reception at Richmond library for Batavia Society of Artists; Deb Meier's painting to be raffled off
Opening Reception for the Batavia Society of Artists' Winter Show at the Richmond Library in tonight, Dec. 6, from 6:30-8 p.m. They will be raffling off Deb Meier's painting that she donated, too.
All are welcome to attend.
The library is located at 19 Ross St. in the City of Batavia.
Play called 'Rehearsal for Christmas Eve Drama' performed at First Presbyterian Church in Batavia, plus flute, harp and organ music
The First Presbyterian Church, located at 300 E. Main St., Batavia, is excited to share with you that our children and youth will be will play a big part in our Christmas Eve service this year.
They will perform a play called “Rehearsal for Christmas Eve Drama.” They will retell the story of Christmas and the story of a youthful actor’s search for the real meaning of Christmas, and how he finds it at a Christmas pageant rehearsal, the last place he would have considered to look.
Generals Grant and Sherman discuss the Civil War in play at GCC
The History Club at Genesee Community College continues its Historical Horizons Series with a special homegrown performance! On Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in a unique presentation, Derek Maxfield, associate professor of History, and Tracy Ford, professor of English, will present "Now We Stand By Each Other Always."
It's the portrayal of an engaging conversation between Generals Ulysses S. Grant and William Tecumseh Sherman. The two-man play is based on historic resources and references.
The Yngodess Shop hosts meet-and-greet with K-9 handler Deputy Chris Erion for Sheriff's Office K-9 fundraiser
As part of "Shop Small Saturday" in Downtown Batavia this weekend, The Yngodess Shop is hosting a benefit for the Sheriff's Office K-9 Fund and to honor the memory of "Destro," the dog who worked patrol with Deputy Chris Erion for five years before dying in early October.
The Sheriff's Office has identified a possible replacement for Destro but is also planning on acquiring a second dog and training a new handler, and funds raised through this event will help with the effort.

Santa Day at Oliver's Candies in Batavia, helps benefit Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of Genesee County teams up with Oliver’s Candies, located at 211 W. Main St. in Batavia, for Santa Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Come visit Santa, shop for sweets and enjoy a petting zoo! There will also be hot dogs for sale! A hot dog, bag of chips and a soda can be purchased for $3.
You can also help build Habitat’s next home by “Sponsoring a Stud.” Sign your name or write a message on a 2 in. x 4 in. for a donation of $1 and it will be added to Habitat’s current project at 6 Manhattan Ave. in the City of Batavia.
St. James holds pie sale, soup sale, and basket raffle
St. James Episcopal Church in Batavia announced that its first Pie Sale/Basket Raffle will be held this Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church, 405 E. Main St. Admission is free.
Known for the wonderful desserts served at Lenten Fish Fries, the bakers of the parish have been busy in the church kitchen making apple and pumpkin pies for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Stop in to buy a homemade pie for $8. Hot soup (eat-in or take-out) will also be available for sale.

Batavia CTE Center Open House showcases a wide variety of skilled trade options
Crime scene analysis, 3-D printing processes, welding applications, animal care methods, and the newest cosmetology trends are just a few of the practices students learn at the Batavia Career and Technical Education Center (CTE). The Batavia CTE Center will hold an Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1.
Students, parents and community members are invited to tour the center and discover the many skilled trades opportunities available at this facility.
