Richmond Memorial Library presents a night of '50s, '60s and '70s music with a little bit of Irish thrown in by “Strummerz.” The popular Batavia-based duo of Rich Conroy and Don Bouchard will perform in the Gallery Room at  7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Sixth annual Spaghetti Western to benefit Crossroads House at First Presbyterian Church

The sixth annual Spaghetti Western to benefit Crossroads House will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at First Presbyterian Church in Batavia.

The church is located at 300 Main St.

Serving is from 5 to 7 p.m. or until sold out. Take-out available.

There will be Western-themed decor, live music and a great dinner for a great cause.

HomeCare & Hospice Foundation hosts premiere Holiday Wined-Up for Hospice fundraiser at Terry Hills

The HomeCare & Hospice Foundation will host its first Holiday Wined-Up for Hospice fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 30th from 6-9 p.m. at Terry Hills Golf Course in Batavia.

All proceeds will support area patients and families and will help us to continue our mission of “Today, make a difference.”

The event will include wine/beer tasting, music, dancing, canvas painting, wine glass painting, a basket raffle and a cash bar. The Art of Mandy will sponsor the painting festivities.

Notre Dame High School 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction

Notre Dame High School is proud to announce that its 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Notre Dame High School.

This fall’s program will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. followed by a dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the alumni student-athlete, contributor and coaching recognition portion of the program to follow at 7 p.m. induction program.

Bontrager’s Fall Harvest Dinner Dance that benefits Crossroads House will be held Saturday, Oct. 13th.

Doors open at 5 p.m. at Bontrager's, located at 8975 Wortendyke Road, Batavia.

Dinner by Roviso Catering will be from 5:15 – 7 p.m.

Music by Dark Horse Run Band, inset photo left, is from 7 – 11 p.m.

There will be 50/50 raffle, raffles and auction and their famous Pie Auction.

Zonta Club's sixth annual Holiday Festival at Batavia Downs

The sixth annual Zonta Holiday Festival will be held Nov. 11 at Batavia Downs Gaming & Hotel.

It is located at 8315 Park Road, Batavia. The event is open to the public, admission is free, and it runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Zonta Holiday Festival brings in a diverse group of fantastic vendors and artisans from Western New York and beyond to display/sell their products. The facility uses both floors to accommodate the 130-plus vendors and artisans.

Inaugural Tommy Manzella Memorial Benefit at Oakfield Fire Hall to benefit O-A sports

Tommy Manzella passed away in a bad car accident in March. As a way to honor his memory, his parents are having a Chinese Auction to raise money for Oakfield-Alabama High School sports, which he was very passionate about.

The inaugural Thomas Manzella Memorial Benefit is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Oakfield Fire Hall. It is located at 20 Albert St. in Oakfield.

All proceeds from this Chinese Auction will go to Oakfield sports -- baseball, basketball and football.

Grand Opening continues in Elba of Sweet Life Country Store & Oliver's Candy Factory

The Grand Opening of the Sweet Life Country Store & Oliver's Candy Factory in Elba continues Saturday, Oct. 19-20, with tours, vendors, live music, giveaways and more.

The completely refurbished building is located at 100 S. Main St. (Route 98) in Elba.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a trio of vendors will be on site selling their products: Jackie's Jams; Peg's Produce; and Vicki Price Jewelry.

Circle B Winery will offer wine and chocolate tasting. There will be giveaways galore and candy factory tours will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Grand Opening of the Sweet Life Country Store & Oliver's Candy Factory in Elba will take place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20, with tours, vendors, live music, giveaways and more.

KISS THIS -- KISS tribute band -- visits Foxprowl Collectables

KISS THIS -- the East Coast's premiere KISS tribute band, based in Buffalo, will be the stars of a meet-and-greet photo op in full regalia at Foxprowl Collectables on Tuesday (Oct. 2).

Its members are Kevin Blakita - Paul Stanley (Starchild), John Jeffrey - Ace Frehley (Spaceman), Julius Giambelluca - Eric Carr (the Fox), Bradley Heath - Eric Singer (The Catman), Taylor Stursa - Gene Simmons (The Demon).

Lady Trojans battle Elba Hornets in volleyball at ACS for breast cancer charity

The Alexander Volleyball Booster Club is hosting its seventh annual fundraising game on Wednesday, Oct. 10, when the Lady Trojans take on the Oakfield-Alabama/Elba Hornets.

The fun begins at 5 p.m. with the JV game, followed by the Varsity game at 6:30 p.m. Alexander Central School is located at 3314 Buffalo St. in Alexander.

The event features theme baskets, a pizza and bake sale and a serving contest for a chance to win prizes donated by area businesses and volleyball families.

Pulitzer Prize winning historian speaks at GCC on America's transformation in the 19th century

On Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. Pulitzer Prize winning professor of History from New York University Steven Hahn will discuss his latest book "A Nation Without Borders" at Genesee Community College.

This is an important reinterpretation of 19th century America — a kind of coming-of-age story especially significant for its contribution to the scholarship on the Civil War period.

Doggone fun: Inaugural 'Puppy Paw-rade & Costume Contest' at Darien Lake

From the simple to the sublime, whether kitschy and corny, or clever and crafty, expect a wide range of getups at the inaugural "Puppy Paw-rade & Costume Contest" at Darien Lake Theme Park on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Registration fees for this event, offered in conjunction with Volunteers for Animals, will be donated to the Genesee County Animal Shelter and the SPCA of Erie County.

The flier says there will be plenty of "pup-arazzi photo opportunities."

Plenty of pet vendors will be there, too.

Executive director of GC GO ART! to discuss 'Farm and Agricultural Art in Rural Life' at September meeting of Stafford Historical Society

City fire department holds free car seat check at headquarters

The City of Batavia Fire Department today announced it will be participating in National Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 23-29).

The Department will be conducting a “Free Car Seat Check” event on Saturday, Sept. 29, at its Headquarters at 18 Evans St. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to check car seats for proper installation, and educate parents and caregivers on how to choose the right car seat for their family, and install them properly in their vehicles.
