Annual Open House at John Kennedy Intermediate School, Batavia

John Kennedy Intermediate School’s annual Open House is 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27th. 

Parents of JK students are encouraged to attend this informative evening and meet their child’s classroom and specials teachers. Students and parents can also shop at JK Parent Group’s Annual Book Fair.

Please join us at Open House and be a part of your child’s school experience.

The school is located at 166 Vine St. in the City of Batavia.

Genesee Valley Wind Ensemble performs Autumn Concert at O-A auditorium

The Genesee Valley Wind Ensemble Autumn Concert will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, in the auditorium of Oakfield-Alabama Middle/High School. It is located at 7001 Lewiston Road in Oakfield.

The program details will be announced at a later date.

The purpose of the GVWE is to serve and to provide the Greater Genesee Valley audience with new and familiar live music, to serve its membership with the opportunity to perform challenging wind ensemble literature and to create the opportunity for the conductor and musicians to grow their collective musical talents.

Pavilion Central School's Class of '73 celebrates 45th reunion at BW's in Pavilion

Pavilion Central School’s Class of 1973 will be celebrating their 45th Class reunion with an informal gathering startingat 6 p.m. Satruday, Sept. 29 at BW’s, (Davis’ Country Meadow), 11070 Perry Road, Pavilion.

BW’s management has graciously agreed to accommodate the best of their ability, as there will be a wedding going on in the back, just in case you wish to stay for dinner, but three bartenders will be on staff, so it may be busy.

Polka Mass and Golabki Dinner at Ascension Parish, Batavia

There will be a Polka Mass and Dinner at Ascension Roman Catholic Parish, Batavia, on Saturday, Oct. 27. It is located at 19 Sumner St.

It is sponsored by Ascension Parish Altar and Rosary Society.

Polka Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. 

Golabki Dinner will be served beginning at 5 p.m. until sold out in Slomba Hall. Take outs available.

Cash bar for beer and wine only.

There will be 50/50 - Basket Raffle

Dancing 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with music by New Direction Band.

The film stars Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff as a trio of rival sorcerers.

10th annual Music Memories Concert at City Church to benefit Crossroads House

This Saturday, Sept. 22, starting at 6:30 p.m, marks the 10th performance of the Music Memories Concert being held at City Church, located at 210 E. Main St., Batavia.

All proceeds for this concert go to support Crossroads House, a comfort care home for the terminally ill, in its 20th year of serving residents of Genesee and Wyoming counties.

It’s St. Joe’s Reunion Brass Ensemble’s final performance using its present name as we know the group.

All current and former military personnel and first responders invited to Batavia Blue Devils football game -- free, plus get hot dog and a drink

On Friday, Sept. 14th, the Batavia Blue Devils Football Team and its supporters would like to recognize all those who have worn or currently wear a military or first responder uniform by inviting them to come to the home game.

Any military personnel, police officer, firefighter or first responder will get FREE admission as well as a complementary hot dog and drink. They will also be seated in the end zone; and to thank them for their service, they will be honored at approximately 7:15 p.m. prior to the start of the game.

'The Incredibles' to be shown at free Family Movie Night at Northgate church, South Campus

Arbor House is sponsoring a free Family Movie Night on Friday, Sept. 21. The movie will show at Northgate Free Methodist Church’s South Campus, 350 Bank Street Road, Batavia.

The featured movie is "The Incredibles." There will be free popcorn, cotton candy, and juice boxes.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.; the movie will begin at 6 o'clock. All are welcome! Invite your friends, and make this a night out of fun for everyone!

Kirkin' o' the Tartans worship service at First Presbyterian Church in Batavia, featuring Rochester Scottish Bagpipes and Drums

All are welcome on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 10:45 a.m. for the Kirkin' o' the Tartans worship service, led by the Rochester Scottish Bagpipes and Drums.

Scottish Heritage Festival at First Presbyterian Church in Batavia

The First Presbyterian Church in Batavia will celebrate its 209th anniversary by hosting a Scottish Heritage Festival on Saturday, Sept. 22.

It will be held, weather permitting, on the front lawn of the church, located at 300 E. Main St.

There will be 19th century games courtesy of the Genesee Country Museum, bagpipe demos, scones and shortbread, Scottish music, geneology and family tree activities, and arts & crafts.

HLOM hosts Westside Ghostwalk, must RSVP

Please join the Holland Land Office Museum for a Westside Ghostwalk at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19th.
 
Take a walk on the Westside and hear tales of murders, hangings, grave robbing, ghosts and other eerie happenings from Batavia's past. Hear stories of Joseph Ellicott, E. N. Rowell and other famous and infamous Batavians. 
 
Admission is  $10 and reservations are required. The tour begins and ends at the museum and is approximately one and a half to two hours long.

Freedom from Addiction event will showcase GCASA's new mobile unit and feature guest speakers from Buffalo, free

Guest speakers from Buffalo and the first Genesee County appearance of the new mobile unit of Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (GCASA) will highlight Freedom from Addiction Sunday starting at 10:30 this Sunday (Sept. 16) at Bergen's Sage Pavilion.

The free event is offered for people who are struggling with addiction or those who have loved ones who are struggling.

PCD Kiwanis 11th annual Car Cruise and Fall Festival at Pembroke Town Park on Route 77

The PCD Kiwanis 11th Annual Car Cruise and Fall Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16th, at the Pembroke Town Park, rain or shine. It is located at 8799 Alleghany Road (Route 77 next to the high school).

At 9 o'clock that morning, the 2018 Unique Dash Plaque will be revealed; cruise registration also begins at 9.

There is something for all ages: more than 40 vendors, food trucks, food booths, music, kids games and activities as well as a bounce house/slide for the kids.

Harvest Moon Hike at GC Park & Forest, must preregister

Welcome the fall season on a Harvest Moon night!

Enjoy the forest at twilight as this bright moon rises in the sky during our Harvest Moon Hike from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22nd! Take in a guided hike and find out how this unique moon got its name.

Meet at the Interpretive Nature Center at the Genesee County Park & Forest. Hike concludes with refreshments. Preregistration is required, call 344-1122 to reserve your spot. Cost is $5/person, $10/family.

Walk to End Alzheimer's, check in and register at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on Bank Street, Batavia

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s® in Batavia will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 9 a.m. with registration and check-in at the Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at 278 Bank St. The walk gets underway at 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony

The walk route winds through the streets near Premier Genesee Center, and covers about two miles. Along the way, walkers will be entertained by local singers and more.

Fur Ball at Days Inn in Batavia to benefit shelter's Spay/Neuter Program

Volunteers for Animals' 15th annual Fur Ball to benefit their Spay/Neuter Program at the Genesee County Animal Shelter will take place starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Days Inn in Batavia.

The hotel is located at 200 Oak St.

There will be food, fun, basket raffles and silent auctions.

Tickets are $25 each; tickets for children 12 and under are $15. A table of 10 -- with 10 seats -- costs $250.

The event is limited to 200 tickets.
